[RESOLVED] How to set base timing with COP

Finishing up a build and changed to coil on plug, wondering what the easiest way would be to set my base timing since I don't have plug wires anymore.

Any ideas?

You can use an inductive timimg light (the kind that the clamp goes around the plug wire) & close the clamp part, & hold it sideways over the # 1 or # 4 coil until you see the strobe flash . . .

I understand that, but there isn't enough clearance. The coil barely sits above the valve cover and i would have to pull it out in order to get the clamp over it. Unless I pull it out and let it arc, running on 3 cylinders. Are you saying to just hold it next to the coil??

Yes it works - just close the clamp, & hold the clamp sideways on top of the coil. You might need someone to help you while you aim the light at the wheel . . .

You can hook the inductive light over the signal wire going to the #1 coil. Back by where the COP plugs into the engine harness even. It should work on the coil too.

I hooked it up to the wire leading to the coil, didn't think it would work since that's only a 12v signal, but it did. Thanks guys.
