So I have a 98 gsx with the following mods:

6 bolt bottom end
Topline forged pistons
1g big rods
2g head
16g turbo
cx racing tubular header
cx racing fmic
550 injectors

I have a little bit of white smoke coming out at idle and more coming out when i press the gas pedal. I researched on here then did a compression test and that came out between 150-155 across the board. I just checked the turbo for oil or shaft play and found a drop of oil on the filter side and it had no shaft play.

Does anyone else have any suggestions for me.

The only other thing that I can think of is that it needs a tune. It isnt tuned and im looking to buy an safc.

I am having the same problem, but mine is stock. 150 compression across the board. White smoke at idle and a trial of smoke when driving. However, I haven't been able to diagnose the problem. I will let you know if I happen to find anything that may be helpful to you. :dsm: :thumb:

Did you guys check for leaks? Could be Anti Buring off on the Ehaust some were from a drip? just a random ideaWTF

Pressure Control Valve. Lets out excess pressure usually in the crankcase. How old are your valve seals? Or burning oil..

does it smoke more between shifts (when in boost)? if so its probably bad turbo seals. if this is not the case look into replacing your valve seals.

I would say turbo seals...probably in the hotside though. Valve guides usually cause alot of smoke when you first start up after oil has been dripping through them after a period of sitting....unless they are leaking REALLY bad. Only time Ive seen enough oil go through the PCV valve is if the underside of your valve cover is cracked enough to allow that much oil to get to the PCV. That would explain the idle smoke but not the under boost smoke since the PCV should be shut at that point. Even if your PCV isn't working properly the pressure should blow into the crank case, not suck oil from it.

check if you are loosing antifreeze ,and if you are them you know what that white smoke is.I got the same problem an a fresh build everything stock mitsu parts,2k miles on the motor, but at idle i can see a little white smoke and then every now and then i loose just a little antifreeze.I refuse to think that this new mitsu head gasket is slightly blown

I'm having basically the same problem and have not found anything wrong yet.

Compression is 155 on all four. White smoke from the exhaust at idle. Goes away for a few seconds if I bring it off idle. And white smoke going into the catch can. Catch can is hooked up to side of valve cover and pcv location. I can't figure it out. Probably something with the head.

Valve seals or turbo seals. If its the HG then i don't think he would be getting 150-155 across on a 6bolt? Unless hes losing a significant amount of coolant. My friends GSX wasn't tuned after a rebuild and it was smoking real bad and missing like it was a HG. Good Luck

Head Gasket is leaking betweek the cylinder wall and exhaust port. It won't effect your compression. Keep an eye on your radiator water. Hold your hand over your exhaust pipe & you'll probably feel moisture. Remember, white smoke is water, blue smoke is oil, black smoke is gas.

So, I got a chance to explore this a little more today. After it warms up, it smokes less than when you first start it but still is smoking nonetheless. Also, from idle, when you rev it, it gives off a small plume of smoke out of the exhaust but after that it is pretty much normal.

I did also notice that I have a slight oil leak somewhere near the oil return line on the turbo. I couldnt pin point it because it was starting to get dark out.

Also, I did all of this while the car was sitting in the driveway. Its off of insurance right now so i cant drive it around.

No afpr, hp unkown, I got her about one month ago she's been sitting since early 05 and is running rough
and has fuel cut problem. I think she's got more done to her than i can see but when I get the bug's worked out of her i'll find out.

definately check if there is a 255 in there, it will eat up your rings. you dont want to have to rebuild the motor. And your problem can be that someone for got to install the oring from the stock pump.
