will a 1g dsmlink work in a 2g vehicle? just curious havent seen any post about it, figured id ask for anybody elses whos curious or wondering
 
Are you sure about that? I couldn't say either way, but considering that the list of features varies from the 1g version to the 2g version, I'd be skeptical. Just go here: DSMLink Homepage and send them a message. The guys at ECMTuning are good people, they can answer definitively. I'm actually not even sure what is physically different between the two ECUs, so it may be interchangeable, but I wouldn't think so.
 
Just posting because I have a freind with a 98 awd who bought a built 6 bolt that came with a 1g eprom ecu with 1g dsmlink. He blew his 7bolt up and found this motor for a replacement. Im doin the swap for him in exchange for the dsmlink. Just curious to know for future reference and for his assurance. He doesnt know much about vehicles let alone tuneable equipment. BTW I e-mailed dsmlink.com to find out more will let you know when I get a reply.
 
I'm sure you could get it to work with effort, but I don't think the reward:effort ratio is anywhere near good enough to make it worthwhile. I know that the 2g DSM ECU can be made to work in Evos and even 240SXs with SR swaps (or maybe it was still with the KA, its 2:30 AM and I'm beat), but I'm fairly sure that a lot of custom wiring would be required to run any ECU in a car not designed to accommodate it.

EDIT: After looking at those wiring diagrams: Yeah, have fun with that swap.
 
Oh, I'm sorry I read that wrong. I was talking about using the 1G ECU chipped with the 2G Dsmlink in a 2g.

That doesn't work either. Why do you think it would?

I run 2G ECUs with the 2G software (stock and DSLink) in my 1G for testing and guys ran that way before the 1G version of DSMLink came out but it isn't very practical to run a 2G with a 1G ECU. It's just as much work as running a standalone without the advantages of a standalone.

You have to rewire or make an adapter for the harness, change to a 1G knock sensor, and come up with something to run the fans since the 1G ECU doesn't

It will not. Sorry. The two ECUs are entirely different in terms of
code support. You can not swap chips between them (DSMLink or stock or
whatever else).

The moral of the story from Tom at ECMtuning is if you want to run DSMlink, you have to get the one made for your car. You can't use the 1g version (not to be confused with V1) in a 2g and visa versa.

That's not what he said. What he said was that you can't use the chips from one in the other.
 
I run 2g ecu's in 1g cars EVERY TIME...Hal landry posted wiring diagram to make an adapter harness... the 2g ecu is faster, w/ more inputs...but If you can go one way you definitely can go the other and run a 1g ecu in a 2g with a harness you will lose a couple inputs ...like MDP and rear o2...but if the ecu isnt looking for it you dont need the sensors either ;) ... IF you are are getting the ecu and chip for free...i would make the harness...its only like a 2 hour job and you got dsmlink for free....if you're spending money...buy 2g dsmlink..its better overall... If you need any help on the harness or have any questions feel free to ask....probably should pm me though I probably wont notice this thread getting updated....
 
My friend had almost the same thing...except he had a 2g dsmlink chip and a 1g car he needed it put into. I think it cost him about $100, but all he had to do was send a message to tom at dsmlink, send in his chip and cable, and they sent him the chip and cable for a 1g dsmlink setup.
