Ok, I know this sounds retarded, but bear with me. When I bought my car, the transmission was fubar, and I, being the new guy to DSM's, let the mechanic repair the tranny. About a week ago, I noticed the familiar whine of the transmission, and jacked up the front end to check the fluid levels. When I unscrewed the top bolt that plainly says OIL (so you don't think I'm a complete retard), alot of fluid came pouring out until I pushed the bolt back in.

My question is thus: Is the tranny overful, and if so, should I just open the bolt and let the excess run out?

BTW, I know the manual says fill to the bottom of that bolt, but I'm making sure that I didnt mess up the two steps.

You should fill up the transmission, while the car is flat on the ground, to the point where there is fluid coming back out the fill hole. Let it go until it stops draining. I usually add a tiny bit more and then put the bolt in. If there was a lot of fluid that came out, then it was probably overfilled.

Here's a picture of the fill and drain bolts in case you need them.
