My car needs new piston rings, and knowing myself, I'd end up building the crap outta the motor if I went the rebuild route. But I found the Frankenstein motor from DSMGraveyard, and figured If I just bought that, It'd save me a lot of trouble and money(considering I go the route of building the motor) Has anyone had experience with these engines? Do they run good? are they put together properly? Any input is appreciated

a buddy of mine was looking into this. one of his friends had one in his car before he sold it. but as far as i know it ran good. ill try to get ahold of him and get some info.

That's what I noticed CrimsonGST. I just wanted to see what you guys think. I'm probably gonna get it next spring.

Ya it looks like a very good product. Even if something goes wrong/bad on it, you have a 3 month warranty :D

I met this dude about two weeks ago at a small local track here in San Diego that had one of those engines installed, he was showing it off to me and he said he was extremely happy and impressed with it, his friend had bought it, never did anything with it and handed it off to him. So according to him its a great buy. I think the price is really reasonable as well.

It says shortblock, but does it come with the head like in the pic? You could always just buy some 2g pistons, new rings, bearings etc and build one yourself, but if you don't want to rebuild yourself it looks like a good deal.

So really it comes down to how much actual work you want to do. Rebuild yourself, or buy one and drop it in..

I had one built by a reputable builder here in maryland in my old 91 tsi....ran its ass off for a stock block. 2g pistons on 1g rods are definatly a worthwhile upgrade if you want to keep your car stock block.

What was the bill on that particular build?

I have the ability to build it, it's just I did that to my other car last winter and my parents didn't like it that much. Plus with college full time and a new job, I just don't have the extra time to build it. The initial plan was to do so, but dropping in the motor is what I'm set on now. Thanks for all the info guys.

If it means anything that shop is a couple miles from me, went and checked it out when I got up to school in August. Pretty good guys, they seem like they know what they're doing.
