Mods/Admins -Please move to correct forum.

I have a 1Ga GST AT. I have completed the conversion. (AT to MT).

The car drives great. No grinding, etc.

Problem: No connection for the Backup Light switch.

According to vfaq, just connect it. However, there is no connector for this.
Converting a 1G FWD DSM Auto

I have a donor nt parts car, i see that this backup light wire/connector comes off of the starter portion of the wireharness.

From a:
MT NT -2 wire connector (thats actually for the backup light sensor)
AT T -3 wire connector (which isnt even for a backup light ???)

The left over connectors are (near front of Transmission)
Pulse generator connector
Kickdown servo switch connector
Oil temperature sensor connector

Neutral start switch connector (have pins 10-11 connected so car will start)

I have used a test light to ensure that the backup light sensor is working, having the wires touch, causes the light on the test light to come on (as to complete the circuit).

What am i missing? I have searched this forum as well as vfaq. I have to have the backlights operational in order to pass state inspection (VA).

I rather get this working than to try to make one via window switch etc.

Any ideas?

Rob

There is a switch that goes on top of the manual transmission. The connector that goes in it needs to come off a manual. Clip the ends and put on your transmission. To power it you need two wires off the 12-pin AT connector that is no longer being used. They are pins 10 and 11. A red and red/blue wire is what you're looking for(they are right next to each other). Connect the leads from the switch to these two wires on the connector and away you go. You should have a backup light.

I appreciate the quick response.

I have both connectors. I took the Backup Light switch connector from the donor car.

Your correct, the 2 wire connector has:
Red Wire. Blue Stripe, Black Band
Red Wire, Black Band

The 12pin AT Connector (11 actual pins) has the 1 Red Wire, Blue Stripe (bigger in gauage) but does not have the other.

I have the Black Wire -White Stripe and the Black Wire -Yellow Stripe Connected together so the car will start.

If possible, i would like to speak with you... let me know if its ok to PM u my number,

Thanks Rob

You might have to run new wires. IIRC, when I did mine, I had a left over connector that plugged into the reverse sensor. This was a blrown and a blue. I belive it connects to the trans computer. I am also pretty sure that the auto reverse is switched at the shifter. This should be a matter of just finding the wires and connecting them. If you get it figured out post it here.

the 12 pin connector has the 2 wires you need right next to the two black wires that allow the car to start. If you go here, this is a picture of the connector and the two black wires. the red and red/blue wire is just to the right of the black ones.

If you feel it'll help you go ahead and PM me your number and we'll see if we can't figure this out. But as far as I know, this is the best information I can give.

Your a god. Its working...

The 12-pin AT connector i was looking at was from the harness that was attached to the AT transmission.

You are indeed correct as the 12-pin AT from the wireharness side is the correct wires.

If you happen to use the 12-pin Harness from the AT transmission then you will need to use:

12pin
Green & Green with White Stripe
2pin
Red & Red with Blue Stripe

Ill take a pic of the what i used.

Thanks again TheMadCheshire!!

hmm I was way off....Is this the same for a N/T auto? Also do you have any tips for the cruize control?

Im sure it is.... take a picture of the harness (12Pin) and send it. But the link above is exactly the same as mine (GST). Also, i have done the NT as well and the black wires were in the same location, so im certain they are the same.

As far as cruise control, no idea....wondered that myself.

I should take some pictures soon of the harness that i put together so it could be possibly sticked... of course all credit goes to the man above.

Anyone know if this works with a 2g?

Im sure if you follow the same method as listed above, its a good possiblity it can.

if you have the connector from the MT, check the AT harness and see if the colors match.

What i did was this:

After finding out from the man - i did cut off the wires, connect one wire, made sure the transmission was in reverse. Ignition was in the start position. Then i had someone stand behind the car and quickly touched the unconnected wires together. Just enough to get the bulb barely lit before pulling it back off. After making sure it worked.. soldered the wires and heatshrinked them.

This might help....
