* * couple questions

1) oil all over the valve cover, even after new oilcap, and pcv valve. Could too much heat cause this? (been a problem ever since I installed a tubular manifold with wrap)

2) running rich at WOT, my gauge drops to 10.0 to 1 air/fuel, plus my exhaust tip is blackened. Would raising the boost lean out my stock tune (currently at 10psi) ? I have no safc or anything yet.

Thanks for any advice

I'm not sure if I am knowledgeable to answer your second question accurate but for the first one I would definitely say replace your valve cover gasket. Mine had oil all over it when I bought the car. Not to mention the Hyundai valve cover. It has since been replaced with a cover I got off another Talon with a fresh gasket set. The valve cover gasket kits comes with the valve cover gasket and the sparkplug gaskets. I used the Felpro kit and it fit excellently. I've been told to avoid their headgaskets though...

1G-specific

1) I had problems with the oil caps bought from autozonce etc and had to by the one from the dealer until it didnt leak anymore. Can you tell the source of the leak??

2) I had a boost leak that made me run rich.

All I know is from experience, and that's what was wrong for me.

It is also worth noting that you can replace the gasket on the oil cap. One place I read about it suggested putting the new gasket over the old one to ensure a tight fit.

Clean off your valve cover and drive it and see if you can tell were the leak is coming from. And as for it runnign rich the 2g cars ecu is set to run 9:1 ratio from the factory so if yours is 10:1 your running alittle leaner than factory. Are you using an actual wideband or are you just using a air/fuel gauge. If your using an air/fuel gauge just ignore the readings from it they are more for a light show. And the air fuel ratio that most try to hit for is 10.5:1 or 11:1 if you want to push it a little leaner and not get knock. But i would also do a boost leak test also, it never hurts

The stock maps are set very rich stock, so if you have no way of tuning it yet it's going to be rich. Start reading about EPROM tuning, it's very effective, cheap, and easy to do; plus it's the ONLY way to have full control of your maps. Since you have a 95 car, so there's a very good chance you already have an EPROM ECU -- so it wouldn't cost much at all (a lot less than even an AFC).

Narrowband or wideband gauge telling you this? Are you sure your dipstick isn't popping out from too much crankcase pressure cause you to have oil all over the place, pretty common with DSM's.

In addition to replacing the gaskets for the valve cover, it is a good idea to check for cracks. I have cracked so many valve covers in my time....I have lost count man. They crack really easy if you are not careful, it will fill the tray up with oil every time you drive. Depending on how long you have had the car, it is possible that the previous owner may have tightened the bolts a bit too tight.

I added a second gasket to the oil cap for a tighter fit, and so far no oil on the engine.. Will keep an eye on it, thanks again.
