My car was squeaking from the front driver side, and I found that on what I believe is the outer tie rod, the rubber part that contains the grease had a big slit in it and leaked all the grease out. Do I just need to replace the outer tie rod?

I had squeeking in my front end and it was the lower lateral control arm. Where they attach to the spindle (hub)

When you lower these cars it changes the angles on your control arms and ball joints. It seemed like I would always get ripped boots. I would just jam a grease gun in the rips and load the boot full of grease every other month.

Usually a tie rod end will sound LOOSE and your steering will have play in it.

If you are for sure its the tie rod then, just replace it....but I would check that lower arm where the spindle pivots.

I hate that these cars dont have grease fittings on them :(

If you DO change the tie rod end....then make sure you mark the threads with chalk or a piece of tape. That way you will know how far to thread the new tie rod end on! HOWEVER you should still get a front end alignment when you're all done.

Thanks for the help. I replaced the control arm about 8 months ago, so I dont think thats it. The reason I thing its the tie rod, is that it squeaked before, and I saw i had virtually no grease. Put grease in the boot, and the noise went away for about a year. So I figured it was the same thing, so when I went to put grease in it just poured out the back due to a big slit.
