sunroof GRINDING

i have a 95 awd tsi with sunroof, and it has not worked since i owned it but finally dumped alot of money into it and decided to fix this while im at it...when u press the button it just GRINDS, an AWFUL grind to...kinda like when u try starting car when its already on...any ideas anyone?

Sunroof motor is probably going out or it slipped. Does it sound like a power window motor does when the gears get worn and hot?

Are the sunroof tracks aligned correctly? If so, is the track free of obstructions?

It doesnt "whine" like a window going out...just grinding, maybe a tooth has been broken off?
