Methanol Injection: Is it a Viable Replacement for FMIC???

This question pertains to my setup, and not overall.

I have a 1991 Talon TSi with the following mods....

- Fully Rebuilt from top to bottom by my own hands
- 0.040 Over Topline Pistons
- Big EVO 16G Turbo (ebay turbo)
- 560cc Injectors
- Self made turbo back exhaust
- Tubular Exhaust Manifold
- Ported and Polished Head (by me)
- Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
- AEM Wideband A/F Guage
- Probably getting Crower 272/272 Cams
- Removed fog lights, created air duct to stock intercooler, and fully cleaned out the intercooler
... and more that is insignificant.

TUNING: MAF Sensor Translator and APEXi NEO

I bought a nice Methanol/Water injection kit that is already installed on the car, but has never yet seen my running engine. Though I have a big evo turbo on it, I don't plan on modifying the boost on it, since this is my winter driver. I'm not looking for high HP numbers and not building a race car. I just want to make sure that my car doesn't melt a piston in the process of daily driving and the occasional petal to the ground.

I'm just wondering what all of you think on water injection on a car with OEM replacement pistons on the setup I described above. I plan to set the kit to engage at the 1/2 way or 2/3 way through the boost as I have read up upon.

You wont even need METH if you are running stock boost. People I know who are running meth on a real evo3 dont even let it kick in until over 20psi, since pump gas on it is good up to about 21-22 you can get 25 outta it with meth. You are kinda wasting your money if you cant use it. It just lets you run real high boost numbers without detonation. Get a FMIC if you want cooler air and more HP.
 
You wont need meth or a larger intercooler for stock boost. I dont know why you would not turn up the boost. At stock boost levels that car will feel like a stock dsm. Put the meth in so it hits when boost hits around 15psi and tune that turbo to 20-25psi. No reason not too.

Well, the car is just a winter driver that I ended up building after it ate a piston. When I rebuild, I usually go a little over the top which is why I have all the mods now.

I probably will up the boost after I get it nicely tuned and in a reliable state.

The reason why i shy away from putting a FMIC on the car is not because of money or putting it on, but because here in Chicago every dumbass with a fart can on their Civic pulls up next to you to race. My car is setup to look like a sleeper, and I know that an FMIC only entices the idiots out there. Not only that, but I can see a higher probability of someone trying to break into or boost my car thinking I have something in it... which I do.
 
Turboglenn did a huge test earlier this year regarding meth vs. fmic. He went back to the frontmount after all of it, but he was running a lot more than stock psi and trying to push the setup. Here's the link.

Stick with the smic and hook up the meth system. You'll have lots of fun with that setup if you ever turn up the boost.

Ya turboglenn is the man, pm him hell inform you. O and in my opinion the "sleeper" look just means you dont care to make your car pretty and you just let it look like shit cause you just say...its a sleeper. my opinion. Just put a fmic on and paint it black no one will know
 
You can push a modded sidemount pretty far. Im sure a Supra SMIC would do as well with meth. Besides heat soak i didnt see a big gain over my modded sidemount going to the EVO8 FMIC.
