So...My car starts/runs normal, but lately there is this strange noise on start. From the drivers seat, it seems to be coming from the left side (drivers side) of the engine bay. The sound coincides with the motor turning over, and sounds similar to a motor turning over, (Cah woh woh woh). I am thinking the water pump?. Is the water pump set up to have water in there (to prime the pump) and maybe for some reason its dry?

Also like to add that the noise goes away after 1-2 seconds of idle. (As if water is then flowing through the pump)

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

That was my first thought also. Check the harmonic dampner for seperation between the two pieces. Outer ring and the part bolted to the crankshaft.

The water pump uses a sealed bearing and water never gets inside the bearing. The pump doesn't prime. It simply uses an impeller that is run by the accessory belt to move coolant through the system. If you want to check it you can try and wiggle the pulley back and forth, any play and the pump is bad. You can also look at the weep hole on the bottom of the housing, if you see coolant there, replace it.

had the same issue it was my starter, may be something for you to look into , have some one crank the car and listen near you intake mani
