Speedometer bounces with shrill

I searched on this and only found a lot of topics relevant to 2gs

Anyways, my speedo has always bounced a little bit. Well I was at the track last night and now when it bounces there's a shrill coming from the dash. When I say shrill it sounds like a belt would that was slipping off of a pulley. It will stop when the car gets below 5mph. I guess it's kinda random. My speedo will read normal, I'll be cruising @ 70 then it will start to bounce accompanied by said shrill then just go away randomly.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I've never done cluster work. Any advice?

When I had my 1g I had the same problem. The spedo gear may not have seated just right or my be so worn that it is not making good contact. As I am sure you saw, it is just a small piece of plastic. Make sure it is still square in shape and not rounded off.

2Gs, your speedometers are electric and irrelevant to 1Gs.

Your speedometer cable is dry. Either lube it or replace it.
