Before I spend the money I want to know which one is better.I was going to do the 2g but everyone here said not to if I dont have the right supporting mods.I have a chance to get a 3in gm mas and translater now too so I wonder If this is a better set up?

I have the same question. My goal is to get between 280hp and 350hp.

Same question. I want to get rid of the horrible 1g MAF. My goals for the next couple years is an upgraded sidemount IC, bigger IC pipes and exhaust. Just basic bolt ons.

Which one will be better is more a matter of how much air you're flowing. The 2g MAS maxes out close to 3000Hz. Some people have run 2700-2900Hz without any problems. I believe most people associate 400-450hp being the max people have run on a 2g MAS. I know someone who's probably got over 600hp and is running a 2g MAS with DSMlink (using FakeMAS). So the 2g MAS will be plenty.

Now, if you went with the GM MAF, you would gain a tuning device (the MAF-T) if you were able to utilize it. You can also vent your bov to the atmosphere without any adverse effects. But, it will probably cost you a lot more than a 2g MAS setup.

You know honestly I havent even set a goal yet I just want to improve the performance per say.I never thought of a hp number but maybe I will go for 300whp?I just dont want to set a goal thats out of my reach!

I just wired in my 2g mas with a set of denso 550 injectors and it runs great. But make sure if you go with the 2g mas or evo 8 mas that you get the supporting fuel injectors for them and a bigger fuel pump. I believe it is 550 for 2g and 660 for evo 8. That way you dont lean out your air fuel ratio and mess up your motor. :thumb: Also you will need to get an intake pipe for it and the best place to go to is dejonpowerhouse.com and get the one you like because most aftermarket intake pipes wont fit trust me i tried with every air filter i could get my hands on. (i used injen but it wouldnt fit) but dejon for sure. Let us know what you decide. Oh and if you want the loud bov sound go for the gm maf but mine is pretty loud with a stock 1g bov and hardpipe uicp and air intake. metal does make it louder. have fun!!!:talon:

I think im going with the gm,but do I have to go with bigger injectors on the gm as well?

I'm using a gmmaf on my 90 tsi, i love it. I'm running 650cc injectors and an safcII. My translator I have set to stock 450cc injectors and im using the safc to contol my injectors. To run a 2g maf you still need an safc so I think its better to just go with the gmmaf. I got the full blowthrough kit from dejon tool cause it gives you a pipe and a k&n filter to run to the turbo.

Ive ran both.

Gm flows more, allows venting of the blow off valve, has a little bit more adjustability, and frees up restriction in front of the turbo.

The 2g mas is more consistent, and does everything else better.
I didnt read the whole thread, but dont use the GM if you dont have a wideband AND some other source of tuning that gives true control of timing/ afr ( i.e. dsmlink) You will want to zero out the gm translator, or else you will have headaches trying to dial it in on a regular climate changing daily basis...

Evo/ 3g mas is the best mas ive ran so far. Wish I never sold it.

If you are getting the 2g MAS, at least use an SAFC to tune it since your goal is not that hard to accomplish. It's cheaper than getting a GM MAF.

the 2g air meter is enough for more then 75% of the DSMr's out there. Seriously, if your making more then 400whp your way past this decision...

My Brother had 410WHP FWD Talon on a 2g maf and 650's injectors,3in turboback exhaust and 16 g turbo ;)
But im running a gm maf setup, because of my Tial Blow of valve (which is not recirculated) and i got a Maf-t gen II,which i use to control my 550cc ....

I was also told that the translator has the ability to select what injectors you have also?So actually I can use it with my stock injectors till I find some evo injectors!

Get a chip burner or emulator from moates.net. Download TunerPro. Get an EPROM ECU (if you don't have one in your car) and get it socketed.

Download ds-map and get gm map & iat sensors. Or use a 2G airflow sensor, they work great and seem to be pretty accurate to tune.

The 2G sensor would probably be the way to go if you don't have or don't plan on getting a wideband. Tuning with TunerPro on an EPROM ECU is the best way to tune in my opinion. It easy to do and the tune is pretty accurate. On a 1g, the information is out there to do just about anything you could want to do using the stock ECU. The 2g info is lacking but is getting better.
