Ok i have heard many things about what to use in the tranny. I am using Pennzoil synchromesh and I like it but u guys know that it breaks down to soon and its really thin. I have heard a good mix is the synchromesh and redline mt-90. Is this a good mix? and is anyone using this mix? I heard you use 1.2 qt of the mesh and 1 qt of the mt-90.:talon:

Redline MTL (75-80W). Amazing stuff. Takes away cold shifting problems and almost all of the 'notchyness'. A lot of people use 90, but i have no complaints on the regular stuff.

When I need gear oils I just call up RRE and they ship me all the good stuff. I would suggest you do the same. :)

I would not mix any oils that go into your transmission. Especially a sycromesh type oil with a GL-4 or 5 rated oil. That's just wrong.

so do you guys think i should stick with the pennzoil or go to redline or go with bg? I know that nothing u pour in is going to fix the synchros but the pennzoil did help with shifts. Is the Redline better than the pennzoil?

I'm about to go get some for my oil seal job I'm about to do. What's the best kind've stuff to get from a napa, autozone, or advance auto parts? Local preferred. I just don't feel like ordering out for the stuff. I will if it's REALLY a big difference though.

I personally use a mix of penzoil syncromesh and royal purple 75W-90. Best of both worlds I say, takes the notchiness out of the shifts and protects the bearings at the same time. You can get both at O'Reilly's.

I had a long talk with Jon over at TRE (Team Rip) and he says that you should NEVER mix transmission fluids, first of all.

Second, he said GM syncromesh is fine ONLY if you are planning to make around stock power (really, who is doing that). He says that the syncromesh will help with making the tranny shift smoother, however, it does not provide the adequate protection that the gears need, causing accelerated wear.

When he tore apart my stock tranny he said that the failure of my intermedaite shaft bearing was most likely due to the wear caused from not having thick enough fluid (syncromesh).

He reccomends Redline MTL for the tranny, and that is what is going in my tranny today. I just got done with my break in period.:thumb:

I used to use 2qt. of Royal Purple Max Gear and 1qt. Royal Purple Synchromax and it worked ok. I didn't like it very much though. It was still difficult to shift, even with a properly adjusted clutch. I'm now using 3qt. of Redline MT-90 and could not be happier!! I haven't missed a shift yet, even on my tired 142k tranny...

Alrighty then. I have 3 bottles of GM Syncromesh up for grabs! LOL Thanks for the info, :)

One more question, a friend of mine has an STi and he SWEARS by Royal Purple...any thoughts? I'm actually leaning more towards the Redline MT-90.

He probably swears by it since it made his trans shift really smooth. But he probably hasn't put enough miles on it nor torn into the trans to find out what kind of damage it has caused.
