I have been researching this for about a week and have not yet been able to come across a solid answer. I'll try to make this as clear as possible as not to was a ton time.

I have a 91 GVR4 that I would like to swap to 4g64 block/4g63 head.

As far as assembly, I have a good understanding of what I will have to block off and which parts to use, with the exception of which block I am to use for this swap. From my understanding, the 4g64 DOHC from the 92 Summit/Expo is a good choice, with the exception of the 10:1 compression and the rarity. Another choice is the 4g64 SOHC 6-bolt from other various pre-94 (?) cars, which would require use of different pistons due to the valve reliefs being different. Now, the 7-bolt 4g64 blocks are mounted differently, which will not work for my application. Here is where it gets very hazy for me, as I have very limited 2G knowledge. From what I understand, which may be wrong, the 6-bolt 4g63 block will bolt into the 2G cars. The 97+ 7-bolt 4g64 will swap into the 2G cars. I inquired a local shop that should have a very good idea of what they are doing, and they told me the 7-bolt 4g64 block will not line up with the rear mount of the 1G/VR4 cars. This goes along with what I have researched, but defies logic as to why the 6-bolt 4g63 and 97+ 7-bolt 4g64 will both swap into the 2G cars, but not the 1G/VR4.

If all of this is true, it puts me in a real bind. I know what blocks I CAN use, but I do not know which ones I CANNOT use. I do care about learning why I cannot use particular blocks, as I do not wish to source a block that I cannot later use. If the rear mount is the only issue, I can have one fabricated without much of a problem at all.

So, with all this as background knowledge, Here are the questions I have

1) Which blocks can I use with stock mount location?
2) Which blocks can I NOT use with stock mounts, and what is the issue?
3) What oil pan am I using? (kinda off the wall question, I know)

I'm going to thank everyone in advance for being understanding and not flaming me too horribly. Also, if there is a good guide online I have somehow missed, please, direct me. I'll be putting together a guide myself as I go through this as to hopefully help someone else in my situation later.

P.S.
I know I have other options, such as outright building the 2.0 and stroking to a 2.3. As far as building the 2.1, it puts me in the same situation as the 4g64 block is used. I am set on building the 2.4. I'm just saying this so everyone knows I am aware of these options.
