Hi,

I just bought a turbo for my car. The guy said it was an 18g. I received today and I want to know the difference between a 18g and 16g because it looks like an evo3 16g. I'll put some pics later.

Thanks,
Kel

It's VERY difficult to tell without removing the compressor cover and measuring the wheel.

Evo III 16G inducer = 1.900
18 G inducer = 1.980

In this case, Mitsubishi never made a bolt-on 18G for our cars so running the part number on Google will do you no good.

That's definitely an 18G. Nice 20* clip on the turbine, too....should be nice & laggy!

look it up on the net by using the part number. Depending where you bought it also. The exhaust wheel should be a little bit bigger than the ev03 16g but both turbos are very good.
Wrong. Both use the TD05H turbine. You're thinking of the FP18G-6SL2, which uses the TD06SL2 turbine.

Is it just me, or does it look like someone ground off the part numbers?
They grind off the part numbers because the compressor wheel is not what the part number would list it to be. It's a convenience, actually....how would you like to buy a compressor wheel for what you think is a Small 16G and when you install it there's a 1/4" gap between the wheel and the housing?

Clipping is a mod done to the turbine wheel intended to make a small turbine flow more air. The face of the blades (the part which turns inward) is shaved down so air exits quicker and the turbine creates less backpressure. The tradeoff for increased flow is more lag.

Clipping is normally done in 10*, 15*, and 20* variants. The steeper the angle, the better the flow....and the more the lag.

Some argue that if clipping is needed then you should simply step up to a larger turbine, yet shops still continue to clip turbines on a daily basis.
