Ordered my new crank today and when the parts guy asked which standard bearing to order I was like.... what? I was thinking to myself wouldn't standard be standard? How many different standard bearings do mitsu have for order on 4g63's. He faxed me a picture of the block with hash marks on one of the corners where the oil pan mates to the block. Low and behold it indicates what bearings to use, to my surprise there are three different standard bearings you can order. My local mitsu dealer parts have never told me that. So it's good I learned this today since I forked out $650 for a new crank, that detail would've been the last thing I wouldn't want to miss. There were two sets of lines from left to right it indicated roman numeral numbers indicating what standard bearing to use. For example on mine it shows: II II III II <------- This would be rod bearings
II II II III II <------ Lastly main bearings

Does everyone know this info? Because I off course just found out today. I have seen those marks before but I figured they were tool marks of some sort. If there is anyone who is interested in seeing the paperwork showing this info/where to find/what to order, let me know and I will post it.

yeah when i ordered my piston rings from the stealership took me three days to find those dam marks .Its right under the block where the oil pan bolts up.My buddy the parts man kept telling me i need to know what markings are on the block so i can order you the right rings i was like its standard size rings, and he was like you build the engine and leave selling the parts to me LOL

Parts are manufactured to "tolerance", not to exact sizes. It's easier to make up the tolerance with cheap bearings than to try and make all parts exactly the same.
It's also explained in the shop manual.

Really, where is it in the fsm they talk about this defiant. I didnt even notice that reading the manual for crank and bearings section. That is good to know though.

Defiant,
I've seen the different bearing sizes mentioned before, specifically here, ...I'm going to assume that page's author is incorrect about all the 6-bolts having exactly the same size bearings. Especially since the OP should be using a 6-bolt. When I originally read that page I was a little skeptical, but I've never really considered switching to a 6-bolt 2.4L build anyway.
