Ok guys I searched this and read it, but have a few more questions. I purchased a ;97 Eclipse GST from a freind and it has a Hahn Racecraft 20G turbo set to peak at 20PSI. I intend to bring it in for an alignment and would like to prevent anyone from "raping" the car to see how fast it will go etc. You guys know what I mean. So if I were to detach the waste gate arm wouldn't that result in full/too much boost, like as if the hose off the manual boost controller valve was off and disconnected? I must be thinking wrong or something, I'm thinking that the absence of pressure in the vacuum line tot he wastegate actuator would let it stay CLOSED and build boost and detaching the arm would do the same thing) Please straighten me out here. Also if I were to turnt he valve all the way down (it's under the hood near the wastegate actualtor cylinder) would any re-tuning of the Apexi AFC need to be done or could you theoretically drive the car forever with no boost without altering my freind's good settings? Thanks a million guys.

with the wastegate arm off, the flapper will be free to move open and closed so there will be no boost made. it will run really rich if tuned for boost but its better than having it "raped".

If you want it to run on the lowest boost, connect a vacuum hose from the wastegate nipple to a boost source (compressor housing maybe?). This will run the turbo off of the wastegate's pressure.

Another thing I would do is mark down the miles on the car and then you could see how many they put on, if they do take it out for a joyride.

oh and be upfront! Tell them you did this on purpose to prevent unauthorized boosting.:p

Yeah right. If you tell them you disconnected the wastegate arm, they would just reconnect it. If you didn't, they would think the car was broken when they took the car out, and immediately park it and don't say a word.

im glad im not the only one thats worried about their car getting "raped" when someone else is driving it and im not along, especially mechanics.

if you disconnect the wastegate from the flapper then it will constantly be open, redirecting exhaust flow around the turbine so you won't have any boost. period. you will however run rich as hell since your cars tuned for 20psi.

personnally id remove the boost controller and run a vacuum line from the compressor housing to the wastegate and let the wga control boost. (12-15psi on a 20g) you'll still build boost but you won't run so rich and it won't be enough for them to rape your car while your away.

...and telling them you kicked it down a notch so they don't drive it hard is a bad idea. 90% of the time shops don't even know what they're looking at when they pop the hood so you have a good chance of them thinking your stock if its not chromed out.

:dsm:

Lol, make it a ticking time bomb so as soon as they boost it your motor blows and then make them pay for your new built motorROFL

If you have a manual boost controller you could always hide it. If your gonna disconnect it disconnect it at the boost controller and relocate it under something.
