Ok so today I took off my turbo and exhaust manifold. As I was inspecting the manifold I found that in one of the runners there was a film of oil or sludge or something on the bottom half of the runner and on top of all the exhaust ports and on the left side of the inlet of the compressor. I'm stumped on if its the valve seals, piston rings or the turbo itself sucking in oil when its in vacuum.

could be a valve guide or valve seal... when the car is cold, have someone start it up while you watch the tail pipe. If you get a puff of blue smoke, is probably a safe bet to say your valve guides are gone... whats the milage?

Id say he is correct here. Sounds like oil is getting through the guides. Check for the blue smoke as he said if it smokes i would have the redone.

The mileage is 190k.. I only noticed blue smoke a little bit at idle though then it goes away as it is warmed up. when I'm driving or revving there is no smoke. I was thinking about taking my money and going to a junkyard for my turbo and just sending my head to FFwD but I'm still thinking about it.

Classic case of valve guides... 190K is pretty high, I would agree that the head need to be freshened up.

Ok so I'll replace the valve seals first. To make sure that it is the guides because i'd most likely end up spending all my money at the machine shop.
