So i read around and non of what has been posted sounds like mine, well tnot that much but neways, i had my tranny rebuilt around 2k ago...and recently my car went into limp mode (my car will shift ok some days and other days not so much) when it shifts it shifts real hard thru the gears and jerks the car. There is plenty of tranny fluid. I dont know why, but im getting the manual shift box so hopefully after i install it, it wont be shifting this way. Any ideas tho?

Don't just install a manual shift box without figuring out what the real problem is first, if you do you will more than likely just be paying for a solution that will destroy your transmission faster. I think the first place to start is to ask you what kind of transmission fluid did you use? If you bought just about anything off the shelf then you should go and purchase a bottle of LubeGuard Black, if you read the owners manual and put specifically the correct fluid in then we can skip that step. It sounds to me like you might be running into problems in one of three places, the TCU, the valve body, or the end clutches but we'll need more information first.

Where did you get the transmission rebuilt?

What fluid did you use?

Is there anything that you can tell that makes the difference between limp mode and regular shifting?

Is there a CEL?

When did the problem start?

What was put into the rebuild?

First off i use ATF 4 tranny fluid. Secondly I had it built buy a transmission shops thats been doing trannys for over 30 years. Difference in limp mode, yes i had know 3rd and 4th gear while driving. (The box is a stand alone unit, like a new TCU (which i am replacing soon)) Also there was 2 codes, one was an idle speed sensor and one was saying my TCU is F**ked up. Oh and it was a full rebuild, all new parts.

I had meant was there any difference in things going on that caused it to either go into limp mode or not like if it was warm out or if you'd driven for a while.

The codes thing was what we needed to know, if your throwing a TCU code then you need to replace it, you can get them off of ebay or the classifieds for cheap.

The weird thing was it just went, so i have relocated my battery to the trunk, and ran the wire underneath, well the other day i decided to run it thru the car so i dont damage the wire or anything. So all i did was disconect the battery and reouted the cable, then a day later it went into limp mode. But im just using my manual shift box for the time being. I have a couple codes thrown, one just comes and goes randomly. But the chords are p1500 p0505 p1715 and p1705 (not sure about that one.)

I dont think a manual shift box will make it shift any different. What it sounds like is the car's gear engaging mechanism isn't easing into it. I guess it would be like shifting without a clutch. I had this problem on an Acura TL once and I used some TransX on it and it cleaned the solenoids which I believe were the problem. But a freshly rebuilt tranny wouldnt do this I dont think. I'd talk to the guy who did this transmission because it sounds like the internals, specifically the solenoids, may be the issue.
