I have a 98 gst about 154k mile and I want to keep my car for at least a year longer. my upgrades are evo16g, exhaust, clutch, and the regulars nothing to serious. What things should I do to prolong the life? it run very well just a lil rich cause my rear bumper is always filled with black smut. To take care of that I'm going to tune it but i'm not sure if its worth it.

If your bumper is black, it's not a little rich. Our cars run around a 9.8:1 a/f ratio from the factory on WOT. Even then your bumper will not get black. It means you have a leak somewhere or your O2 sensor is dying.

Change the oil every 3000 miles or in the case that it's not your daily driver every 3 months. That and make sure all of the general maintenance is up to date. Including, water pump, timing belt, and all sensors are working properly. You should be good to go if everything checks out OK.

i need to check my 02 sensor and then check for leak then get it tune. thanks for the advice.

get a datalogger if you think your gonna do anything you must be able to monitor what your doing and you can check any codes along the way

black smut on your bumper is oil smut from oil getting past the turbo bearing seals, isn't it? My car is n/a, and I can always tell the turbos from the black smoke and stains on the bumper. It ain't right, but it's also pretty normal, par for the course with a high-mile turbo car. Turbo-timer exists to prevent that.

Get a datalogger, and do the stuff like these guys said. You'll need to learn if the car is running right or not, thats the only way to make sure its going to keep running. The logger helps to do that and is inexpensive. Just make sure you have the right timing and boost and fuel for whatever you're trying to do and that there is no knock... And just read about the car and use your resources; luckily there is a massive community to help you. All the information you'll ever need is contained within...

You don't need a datalogger or tuner with just evo at wastegate pressure boost. Its just very helpful.

I would
1) run wastegate pressure boost
2) replace the front O2 sensor
3) Replace the timing belt [all pulleys, belts and the hydraulic tensioner]
4) Replace the waterpump while doing the timing belt
5) Replace the thermostat while doing the timing bet and water pump
5a) Replace the radiator hoses upper and lower while doing the timing belt.
6) Replace the fuel filter
7) Replace the spark plugs
8) Replace the spark plug wires
9) Oil change every 3000 miles
10) Change the transmission oil with 85W90 GL4 oil only
11) Do a compression test.
12) Boost leak test and fix all boost leaks.

I would definitaly at a MINIMUM do 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12.

The cost of doing the minimum is fairly cheap.. about $100 to $120 in parts and a the majority of a weekend day [with breaks]. The timing belt and others will be another 250 to 300 on top of that ... but its good maintenance to perform.
