i have a 97 talon:talon: tsi it basically all stock k, n-e-ways last night i went to go get my girl at work and when i got there i lost my power steering and the battery light came on, i found out that my alternator belt come of so i had to put it back on mind you it was 11:30 PM:notgood: and the only light i had was a street light and a mintier mag light, it took me some time but i got it back on, this morning i go under the hood to see if everting was ok and i realized that my ac wasnt working, the belt had snapped and that what caused my alternator belt to come of, but after running the car for 2 min (if that) my alternator got really hot to the point of burning you if you touch it(trust me it was hot) can any one tell me if it ok if it gets that hot or if i have to get a new one or going to have to get a new one soon, or what could be the cause if it getting that hot?:talon:

Maybe you dripped some power steering into the alternator and its about to seize? Check belt tension, unproper belt tension might cause it to slip. I would take the alternator off, and have it checked before it goes bad completely.

Do you have the lower heat shield on the turbo/O2 housing? because the alternator is really close to the turbo so it could be getting quite hot from that.

I dont have a heatshield either, and it gets hot obviously, but not to the point to go bad. If he didn´t have problems before and he does now, i don´t think it´s related to the heatshield. Easiest thing to do, is to take it out, and have it inspected.

Just adding another viewpoint, I find it to be almost commonplace for a missing lower heatshield to kill off alternators.
