Alright, I have finally had it. My engine bay has WAY to many extra wires just hanging not plugged into anything. This is because I did an auto to manual swap, so there are like 5-6 extra plugs for that, I don't have cruise control, A/C, fog lights, and a few other things. I can't take this stupid messy harness anymore, and I keep having random short circuits on certain fuses. This 12 year old harness is peeling, ripping, etc. The tape is all coming off, the loom is cracking, it just overall does not look pleasant, and it is NOT easy to deal with.

I just want to get a switch panel with 5-6 switches to control stuff, and re-do most of my engine bay harness with my own fuse box.

Like this one:

Jegster Switch Panel - JEGS

So I KNOW this is not going to be to easy, and will require a lot of spaghetti work, which I don't mind, I actually enjoy wiring stuff. Has anyone ever done anything like this, and what kind of problems have you run into? Anyone have any comments/opinions to add?

Yeah, I know that. But, what I am proposing, I will have my switch panel control the starter, NOT the stock wiring, so it doesn't matter. I will have a pushbutton on my switch panel connected to the starter and battery and relay with a fuse. Get what I mean?

I did it to my car when I had the motor and everything torn out of the inside. I took the ecu harness and engine bay harnesses out and took the tape off, checked all the wiring and re-taped and covered them. It was a pain in the butt, but I think it was worth it. Makes the engine bay look a lot more cleaner, and I know that I don't have any shorts now. If I were you, I would tag all the wires so you know where they go. I didn't even think about doing that when I did it, and it took an extra bit of time to find out where everything went. But as long as you do everything correctly (like I soldered all of my connections) it should come out fine.

I wish that was done to my car wish is currently sitting on the parking lot because my whole wiring got burned its been over a month already and I havent been able to find it nowhere. So make sure you tape those wires real good man good luck

It sounds as though you want to make your OWN harness, is this correct?

If so, yes it has been done, but mostly for track only cars. Wiring a starter switch, fan control, electric water pump, fuel pump, and whatever else you're looking for is best done independently of the ECU system. By this, I mean that all the ones I have seen relied on an aftermarket EMS that completely eliminated the stock ECU.

Is this what you had in mind or are you just looking to make a control panel that that primarily replaces the ignition system?
