London,
So i had my throttle body off today and notice that the inside of it as well as the inside of my intake manifold was coated in a fairly thick, black, greasy film. I was wondering if this was normal or maybe a sign that my valves werent closing properly and i was getting some fire in the intake manifold, maybe my timing is off?

how many miles do you have on your car? in my experience with other cars (non dsm), cars with that build up was just from high miles. if your timing was off then your car would have a miss or at least a stutter, and i have never had flames go up through the intake. i would take it off and clean it up. my buddies mx3 had that and it caused a hunting idle that was horrible. hope this helps:thumb:

If your valves were not closing then you would have no compression and a non running motor. as far as the greasy film, this is normal and caused by the pcv system.

After you take it off and clean it (if you choose to do so), you can unplug the hose that runs from your valve cover to your intake pipe, and plug a small filter on your valve cover. You can find these at almost any performance store. Dont forget to plug the hole coming from your intake pipe that led to your valve cover.
