hi to all. i have a 93 talon that has a plymouth laser tranny on it i bought it like this an i have no idea why who i bought it from did this but anyways i have bad ginding like my synchros are going out. the car makes around 300 horsepower at 10 psi and it has a stage two 3 puck exedy clutch and i put royal purple synchomesh fluid in it, is this the wrong type of fluid? i fi used a diffent type would the grinding be lessend or stopped?

The syncros are probably bad. Does every gear grind? That fluid should be good. I use the GM Syncromesh fluid (2.5 quarts), I paid 10.99 per quart from the GM dealership (14.65 for retail customers).

An easy test to see if the syncros are out is: Engine running, car not moving, clutch pedal out; move the shifter toward each gear (except reverse); if it grinds, the syncros are gone. The car SHOULD start to move forward and not grind.

If you do mechanical work yourself and have a press, it's not very hard to fix the transmission yourself. It's actually a lot easier to disassemble and reassemble the tranny than it is to remove and reinstall it in the car. A rebuild kit is around 350 with bearings, seals, and brass syncros. If you need new shift forks, shift rails, hubs, or sliders then it can get more expensive (really expensive if you need new gears). You need to look at all the gears though, because it doesn't pay to spend time and money on a tranny and put it together with even one damaged gear. If the teeth on the sliders don't come to a point, they are worn down and need to be replaced to shift good.

no that royal purple will make it grind worse.... Synchromesh, MTL, or MT-90 will make it grind less, might even eliminate it. Make sure that you bleed the clutch and that the clutch is fully disengaging.

o sweet i really appreciate that man. im going to get my stuff readjusted and bleed the clutch and see what happens. so what would be the best weight and type of fluid i should use?

Test (with car running and not moving): push clutch pedal down to floor, put your car in 1st gear, rev the rpms up to say 7000+ rpms (or the highest rpm you ever shift at). If the car moves, your clutch is not disengaging all the way.

Adjusting your clutch: Try push in your slave cylinder. If it doesnt push in by hand, you have it adjusted up too much; if it does push in, adjust it up some more until it doesn't and then back it off slightly until it does push in again.

If, with the clutch adjusted this way, you have poor pedal, your slave cylinder or master cylinder are shot -- get new ones and try again. The slave and master together are like 40-50 bucks on ebay and work wonders on getting your clutch working properly and your tranny shifting easy.

alright i will defintely perform that test tonight after work maybe. but what type of fluid and what weight would be best to use? i kno it wont totally get rid of the grind because of the power im making and the fact that its stock tranny with just a good aftermarket clutch in it.
