[RESOLVED] Need help identifying part.

I picked up a 94 Talon off a guy last month for a couple hundred bucks. Sat in a barn for 4 years after a busted timing belt. I wouldn't have normally bothered with the car but it's cherry. Perfect interior, exterior and just all around a clean car. Did the whole new head / timing parts thing and I'm in the process of putting it all back together. During disassembly, I labeled everything and put it all in baggies but this part fell out and I have not a clue where it goes. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

What size is it? Can you compare it to anything?

It's about the size of a 50 cent piece. I'll try to post a new pic tomorrow.

Did you remove the entire engine or just the head? Let's see if we can narrow the field down a bit.
Is this a 2.0L or the 1.8? It almost looks like a distributor part, and that would limit it to a 1.8L.

With the way the dirt and rust is built up on the one side, it looks like that might have been facing downward where it would pick up road debris. How does the rest of the engine by look; is there a lot of rust?

It's a 2.0 and I didn't pull the entire motor. As far as rust, I'd say typical grease and grime for a 18 year old car. I do believe that it's from the passenger side of the engine bay. I was working on that side of the motor when I heard the piece hit the floor.

If it helps, it looks like it may be brass.

looks to be some sort of retainer or something. Sorry, though, Ive never seen anything like that.

I would just start putting everything back together. When something doesn't quite fit together, see if that part could go there and make it happen.

Good thinking! That does look like the little part that goes over the top of the spring-pin with one of the tabs broken off.
