So, I've got a problem. My turbo's making this "wonderful" noise. It sounds like tranny whine, aka much lower pitched than the usual turbo whine, and the volume is directly related to how far the turbo is spooled.

Now, as far as assumed related problems... Well, I can't spool the turbo anymore without spewing tons of oil smoke out of the tailpipe. I haven't taken apart anything yet, but I believe the turbo is the problem and needs replacement.

Now, as for the good, with the whole oil burning issue, I decided to take the plugs out to check them, and as long as they were out, do that compression test I'd never done on the car. Well, I think this: 199, 195, 194, 196 speaks for itself.

And for the ugly? Well, what do you guys think? New turbo, or worse?

I'll check the oil lines tomorrow, as well as checking the turbo for shaft play.

Also, PCV? I'll probably shoot myself when you tell me what that stands for, but I can't remember at current.

As for a boost leak test, the amount of boost I get hasn't changed. Gauge still reads 13psi as per usual, even with the turbo screaming bloody murder. Doesn't mean there wasn't one existing before I bought the gauge, but wouldn't I not boost as high if I got a leak or an existing one worsened?

Positive Crankshaft Ventilation. My 14b sounded like a supercharger before it went out. I loved the sound, It was LOUD and people would STARE. LOL It lasted like that for 10k before going.

It is the copper looking nipple at the top left hand side of the valve cover the has a rubber hose attached to it which runs to the intake mani. PCV stands for Positive crankcase valve. If you are boosting and the crankcase pressure can not leave the motor it will blow past rings seals and what not.
