Looking for a (real) complete timing belt kit
Ok, so I am going to be replacing the head on my car since the timing belt snapped on me and bent all 16 valves. This would be my first one, and I am still learning, so some help would be appreciated.
Right now I am looking for a timing belt kit. That is, a complete kit, with everything I would need to do the replacement. I was looking at the partsdinosaur kit, and it has:
# TB167 S A Gear Timing Belt
# TB168 S A Gear Balance Shaft Belt
# T60091 PCI Timing Belt Tensioner Bearing
# T65274 PCI Timing Belt Idler Bearing
# T60105 PCI Balance Shaft Tensioner Bearing
# T60106 PCI Hydraulic Tensioner Adjuster (casting #533)
# 28-9212 ITM New Water Pump
Basically, the belts, the bearings, adjuster, and the water pump.
From there I was looking at the ProStreet kit, which has:
T belt= MD110029 (TB167)
Balance shaft belt= MD115977 (TB168)
T belt tensioner= MD129355
Balance shaft tensioner= MD115976
Idler= MD156604
It's sans the water pump, but it states that it has 2 tensioners. Are these the same as the above mentioned tensioner bearings with the partsdinosaur kit, or are they something completely different that I would need to purchase as well?
Basically I'm just wanting to make sure I have everything before I start making purchases.
Also, if somebody could recommend a place to get a decent, but not overly expensive head gasket set, as well as some ARP studs (I don't need performance ones, just some to replacements), I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

If you are looking for the complete kit, I'd go with the first one. It comes with everything you need and you said you are just looking for replacements. As for the headgasket kit, look at Topline. As for the studs, ARP are performance, they don't sell stock replacement ones. They aren't that terribly expensive, but it'll be worth it. Put those, with a stock headgasket that is copper sprayed, and you'll be set.

Thanks for the responses. Another quick question, and the thing that is really throwing me off:
The JNZ kit includes timing belt, idler, tensioner pulley, and tensioner. Obviously I know what the timing belt is, but the idler, tensioner pulley and tensioner are sorta throwing me off. What are they, in comparison to the tbelt tensioner bearing, idler bearing, bshaft tensioner bearing, and hydraulic tensioner adjuster?
I really just don't want to have an issue of I purchase a kit and then half way through installing a new head it's "oh, hey, you didn't get part x that you needed to replace. Now undo it all and start again"

Bottom left is the balance shaft belt tensioner.
Bottom middle is the timing belt idler.
Bottom right is the timing belt tensioner pulley.
Big belt is the timing belt.
Small belt is the balance shaft belt.
Only thing left is the timing belt tensioner.
Those are all the parts you need for the timing. You have to select from the drop down box the balance shaft pieces and the water pump.

Ok, but that still doesn't explain if "balance shaft belt tensioner" = "Balance Shaft Tensioner Bearing", etc. Sorry for the repetition, I just am trying to be 100% sure on everything before I purchase.

Forget about the names that parts dinosaur uses. Everything you need is there in the link I gave you. When they say bearing Mitsubishi would say pulley.

Awesome, ok. Well then, I guess my final question would be is there a reason to purchase the JNZ kit over the PartsDinosaur kit? It includes more by default, at a far lower price, and many people here have made recommendations to PartsDinosaur from my searching. To get equivalent purchases it would be PD ($199 + shipping) vs JZN ($368 + shipping).

JNZ uses only Mitsubishi parts in their kit. That is why it is more.

Theres nothing wrong with the PartsDinosaur stuff. I'm using their timing belt kit and their 3g lifters. Many others have used these without any issues.

Cool. Not to start a new thread, I'll just ask here. Due to circumstances beyond my control, my car has sat headless for about 10 months now. What sort of issues am I going to be looking at with that?

My car did the same thing due to me breaking my knee in NC and the car being in NY. The only thing you really have to look at is the cylinders. Are the cylinder walls rusted like mine were? Is there anything like bugs in the cylinders? If there is something in the cylinders just clean them out. If they are rusted you can try what I did which was use scotch brite pads and WD-40 to clean the rust off or you can do a rebuild.
Using the scotch brite method will most likely cause your car to burn oil and have some blow by, luckily mine doesn't. Doing the rebuild you might be able to get away with just piston rings and honing the cylinders. You will have to hone them and measure the piston to wall clearance to see. If the clearance is too loose you will need new pistons.

Who said anything bad about them? Personally I will only use OEM timing components.

Perhaps, for the sake of being sure, I should get a completely rebuilt engine. Namely because the motor itself was already somewhat beat up when I purchased it. Does anybody have a recommendation on places to look for rebuilt engines?

partsdinosaur sells quality aftermarket replacement parts- which are good and pass the iso standards but alot of people feel safer using oem parts for the timing system. The timing components are vital in the 4g63- which is an interference style motor. I personally only use the oem tensioner and pulleys with gates brand belts. Just my .02. As for the down time, just like 1992awdlaser says, there is no problem, just be very careful if you decide to scotchbrite it. If you have the extra cash, it would be worth throwing in some new rings and bearings while you have everything apart. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you clean everything very well before you put it back together.

All the pulleys and water pump are an exact part number match to your OEM mitsubishi bearings/pump. Why spend more when you get the exact same thing for less. Go with the parts dinosaur kit.

No they're not:
Mitsubishi water pump= MD972052
Mitsubishi tensioner pulley= MD129355
Mitsubishi balance shaft tensioner= MD115976
Mitsubishi idler pulley= MD121993
Parts Dinosaur water pump=28-9212
Parts Dinosaur tensioner pulley=T60091
Parts Dinosaur balance shaft tensioner=T60105
Parts Dinosaur idler pulley=T65274
People can guess all day about whether a certain company makes the OEM pieces. But the only way you are guarunteed OEM quality is by buying OEM Mitsubishi pieces. The only thing to do with this that I would put a non OEM piece on my car of is the water pump.

What does Parts Dinosaur's part numbers have to do with Mitsu's part numbers? I know for a fact that the water pump from Parts Dinosaur is the exact one you get when purchased from Mitsu. Alot of other things Mitsu sells are sold elsewhere under different brands.
OP, check out my thread here: Parts Dinosaur Timing Packages?

Pat is correct. I just installed the PartsDinosaur kit. The pulleys are made in Korea, the belt is made in Italy. But comparing them to the old oem parts that I took off they do look to be high quality items. Interestingly, the old belt I took off was the same as the new one from PD (maybe the same manufacturer as oem?).
I've been told that the auto tensioner is one of the most critical items. It appears the one that comes with the PD kit IS oem although the packaging is not Mitsubishi. It came sealed in a box that says "Made in Japan", wrapped in anti-corrosion paper. The tensioner itself looks identical to the pics I've seen on the forum as well as the old one I took off.
I have to say that Bruce has fantastic customer service. The tensioner pulley that I received apparently had been dropped at the factory and had a dent. I contacted Bruce. Initially he said send it back at his expense for a replacement. Before I could send it out he contacted me again to say that he was having the manufacturer/distributor send a replacement directly to me in order to get the replacement to me as quickly as possible. He said do whatever I want with the damaged one.
Here a few pics.
