I have a crack above and below the wastegate hole. Would a 34 mm flapper help my situation. I'm not really wanting to spend the money on a new turbo at the moment. It does seem to spool a little slow but not a ton. I noticed the crack when I had the head rebuilt. I just bought a ported 2g manifold and put it on because mine was cracked in a couple of spots. But I also get what sounds like an exhaust leak when I am under full boost and let off the gas. I get the sound right as I let off the gas. Is this caused by the cracks near the wastegate hole? I thought the sound was probably the manifold so I changed it. I when I was done I took it out for a couple pulls and still get the noise (leak). Can anyone help me please?

The exhaust housing on 14b turbos usually have those cracks around the flapper hole. Some are worse then others. Vfaq.com should have a picture of some typical cracks under the porting section.

I can't see it but 95% of the housings I have seen have some sort of crack. A exhaust housing I have seen anywhere from 20 bucks to 50. I have has no problems when my flapper is shut, it holds water. Just make sure the flapper can sit flush on the seating surface.

I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

Look closely at the outside of the turbine housing. Sometimes, if the cracks are bad enough, they will go the whole way through the housing causing an exhaust leak. If all of your components are in good shape (no leaks in any of the gaskets between the manifold and turbine housing or turbine housing and o2 housing) then it's possible your turbine housing is cracked the whole way through.

If the cracks are ONLY around the wastegate hole, you can sometimes port out the hole a little and resurface the flapper's sealing area....then install a 34mm flapper.
