What would a set of 264/264 cams do for my stock 93 TSi?

What would a set of 264/264 cams do for my stock 93 TSi? The only mods it has are a K&N and a muffler. Hopefully down the line when I get a better cash flow I'll get a full intake and a 3" exhaust, but for now its stock. Will cams do much of anything on my car? And will they be better with better flowing intake and exhaust?

TIA,
Sawyer

quite simply....no. A bone stock motor will in very miniscual ways benifit from more profile. You would at minimum need more airflow into the head (big turbo/more boost) then you would need a way to tune for the cams to even get the idle right and driveability would go out the window. So save your money and follow this sites ugrade path's:thumb:

yes. yes. and yes.

264's are great... and the correct starting point for cam tuning.... and you won't need to "tune" anything.

Nice cheap combo is a 190lph pump and some 264's...

The biggest bang for the buck a MBC, hack aircan (free) and boost gauge. Another freebie is punching out your cat (for off road use only :shhh:) Those items would be an easier install and likely way less money.

If you have the cams, put them in, if you are thinking about buying them, don't do it, you got lots of other things to get before you can think about cams.

He is correct...My daily was on a sidemount ic, E316g, exhaust and 255. I threw 264 cams in there and it was a nice upgrade. I did have to upgrade injectors though since I didn't want to turn the boost back down from 15psi. All in all if your getting them for a good price don't pass them up.

Couldn't have said it better. Just keep in mind that you don't really need any other upgrades for the 264's to be a great mod. But extra fuel would be a good start when you do upgrade.

Honolulu Hawai'i ?? Wassup bradah? I stay Kama'aina you know... But I one hauli

If you have the opportunity to get 264's at a good price and this car is going to be used as a daily driver- get them. It's true that they wont do too much on a stock motor, but they are a great upgrade. They are perfect cams for a dd withe an e316g, 3" turboback and minor fuel upgrades. Because of the inexpensive pricing of the bc 272's, alot of people have forgoten about the value of the 264 profile cams and went straight for overkill

I'm sorry don't hate me lmtune.... but you just contradicted yourself

You said that 264's won't do much, then you said that they would and implied that 272's are overkill (which they are for most people including myself)

If you change out to just some 264's, without any other modification, you will feel a large increase... I could speculate how much hp I think it is (across the rpm range) but let's not bench race... Hypothetically speaking, going from 200hp to 212hp feels like more on the butt dyno.

He said they wont do much on a stock motor. As in you will need other mods to really feel the gains of the cams.

I have driven an AWD with HKS 264's (and nothing else) and owned one with a 190 fuel pump and HKS 272's (which have identical lift) and nothing else

And I most certainly felt a difference in both cars.... of course you feel the OEM fuel pump dying out at about 5000... takes a nose dive at about 6000... but the cams were kickin much harder than stock

Don't worry, no hate here and I'm sorry I should have clarified myself some more instead of making the general statement of 272's being overkill. I believe that either cam is unecessary for a stock car and without supporting mods I believe that both are a waste of money. I believe that any cam decision should be made very carefully and you should do alot of research before you spend the money on them. In my particular case, I have a dd 2g awd with an e316g and I believe that the 264's are a great fit. I also installed 650's, an evo pump, 3" turboback amongst other mods. I installed these cams after Ihad the other parts and after a little tuning, there was a night and day difference. I have never run a stock car with cams so I guess that i'm not sure of the exact effect that these would have. I had previously run the original bc 272's on my 1g with an e316g and in my personal experience I believe my dd suffered because of this. I have read that they have changed the profile of their newer cams to help with low end response and i'm sure with a better tune my 1g would have run better but if I was able to do it again I would have used the 264's from hks like I have now. I have never really been a 1320 guy, so thats why I think the smaller profile cams would have been better in my case.

Yeah I knew you just needed to clarify... makes perfect sense.

I believe the most "bang for your buck" goes in this order:
MBC
Fuel pump
Camshafts

You can easily skip one and go to the other, but I'm just listing them in order of cost and effectiveness.

For the money you would spend on the cams you could get more mods that would benifit your car better. get a intake, dump collecter, and a 3' downpipe. i think those would be best for now so you can get more flow throught the engine. then get the cams.
