ok guys so im building a 2.1 destroker 6 bolt. ive already got a race head with all the goodies minus cams. but these engines can rev up like no other from what ive heard your only limited by your valve train. So saying that i wanna be shifting at a minimum of 10 grand when im racing but it is still a daily driver, what trans rebuild should i get? i think as of now im looking at a jacks premium rebuild with the upgraded 1st and 5th. some people have told me dogbox but idk how daily driveable that is. will some dsm tranny god shine a light on me?

There is only a handful of DSMers that shift at that point. You are limited by more than just the valve train, you need a turbo that will make power up there, which means you need a motor to handle a turbo that big that lives up there. Read up on compressor efficiencies and you will see that taking a 14b to 10k is a no no, it won't do anything. But in regards to your question a DOGBOX is the only way to go if you are going to shift around 10k. The stock synchro set up will not like you trying to shift there.

Later Dr Turbo

yeah im gunna be running a pte 6031 and from what i heard that turbo wakes up in the 30 psi range. but the motor will be able to handle high rpm as will the head. i need to figure out cams and a tranny and then wait for the money to pile in. what is you opinion on using a dogbox for a daily

You have to remember you should be very seldom every shifting at 10k, even if it can handle it. With a 6031 and a matching set of cams, your not going to be making peak power anywhere near 10k, so you'll be wasting alot of time up there in that rpm range. A real turbo would be a GT40 or larger setup that flows 75+ lbs.

However, I absolutely recommend TRE transmissions. However, with all 3 big name tranny shops, TRE, Shep, and this new guy Jack, all can build reliable transmissions to shift at 10k without a hiccup, its TQ and abuse that is going to kill it.

I wont say much of yet, as I've only just received my Jack's build days ago and have not had the chance to install it; however I will say I'm happy with his work & service so far and would recommend his shop.

In fact I was rather impressed with his offices ability to track my order over a lengthy payment and shipping time frame on my part. I paid for my build 9 months in advance and had no issues concerning communication. Jacks' had someone review our email correspondence confirming my special requests and honored the year old price quote with out question.

Well handled!

-UPDATE- :I now have my GSX back together and can honestly say Jack did a great job on my transmission build. Happy customer!

i personally called all of the the places listed in the responses above, and spoke with all but jacks...
the guy that made me feel like i was brought to school on any question that i could think of that pertained to dsm trannies was team rip. the guys name is jon. he was very curtiouse and extreamly knowledgable/passionate about what he does. i got the stage 3 exchange 2g awd dsm tranny with the evo gearset! i actually spoke with him on several occasions over the phone doing reserch for weeks trying to find the bulletproof easily streetable tranny for what my perfomance goals are. i bit the bullet
and got his for xxxxx amount. (i got a deal!!!).now im feelin bad for how little i payed. this thing shifts better than i thought possible for a dsm street tranny.
this is there number and site \WELCOME TO TRE   WE SPECIALIZE IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR 269-382-2669 ,. if nobody picks up, call back in a bit. he will anser all you questions in detail and thro in more.
BEST THING I EVER BOUGHT FOR MY 2G DSM.
P.S. i shift this thing at 7500 rpm like $%^&@#$ BUTTER

thanks guys, this has really helped me out. but heres the best news, the guy that i was going to buy the destroker from wont answer his phone or my emails anymore so i figure that he sold it to somebody else. so idk now im thinking about a 2.3 stroker now. idk a destroker seemd really unique and cool to me though and i already bought a fully built head for it. idk what to do any advice from you guys would be great.

go with a built 2.0 ROFL. You won't really be revving as high with 2.3 stroker. What are you looking for torque or high horsepower?

yeah true idk its just like (well at least for me) everyone has a 2.0 idk i am going to sit down one of these nights at research it till my head explodes and buy that point i think i will know what i want.

if you do go with strate cut gears i would do 1-2 and thin go with a healical 3-4 and a stock 5th gear chances are you wont need 5th while racing. defanatly not at thoughs RPMs.

if you want something TRULY unique....

i got one for you. I knew a guy who did this to a 240sx.

Go find a low mileage 98-02 camaro/firebird or a vetter if you can find one

yank the ls1 motor, the t56 trans, buy a ford 9" rear

and drop that in!!! :p

310 horses on the drop of a hat. You could knab 340hp with simple bolt ons EASY.

all that power with no boost leaks :p and a near bullet proof motor and transmission

You could also find a wrecked GTO. 05 had ls1, 06 on had ls2

Do you have any idea on how much that would cost let alone time??? The tunnel and firewall would totally have to be gutted and fabbed to make room. Custom motor mounts, custom rear axle fab, custom headers, custom exhaust, tons of wiring, etc. At the end of the day, you have lost the AWD and even though its making over 300hp, its still slow since it can't get traction in the back. Hopefully the LS1 used doesn't have the common piston slap issue...

Being a true LS1 lover (previous owner of a 02 WS6) that swap doesn't make sense.

eh. i was talking with money aside :D

it wouldn't be that bad of a job if you had access to propers hoists, lifts, and a GOOD welder

good point about the AWD tho, i didn't even think about that

i miss owning an F-body  .....until i hit the gas pump that is

HOO RAY destroker is back on. turned out the guy was just uber busy which is great news for me and bad news for my wallet. especially with college coming up.WTF o well what are parents and student loans for?
