Ok, heres the deal. I got a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. The last weeks I have noticed the turbo seems alot louder. Now when I get into it, it hits full boost and revs to 3k then falls flat on it's face and absolutely does not wanna rev any higher then that. I took it into town last night and I didn't even think I was going to be able to hit 60mph. Then when I did it stayed at full boost (about 12psi on the stock gauge) almost the whole way into town. It used to do this a little bit but not this drastic and it seemed to go away after the car warmed up. Also I was hitting a fuel cut at a little over 6k before. Now if i down shift on the highway to get it to rev higher it breaks up, not really fuel cuts, but stutters and backfires at just under 5k. I recently did a boost leak check and fixed all my leaks, cleaned the ends of my intercooler up and made sure everything wasn't leaking and now i have this problem. I'm gonna go check it again but i doubt it's leaking. I gotta figure out soon weather or not i'm going to be able to drive this thing 170 miles today.

If you're postive its not a boost leak then it could be a fuel issue, have u messed with the fuel pump lately ? I had a similar issue and it ended up being the fuel pump o'ring was torn and not supplying enough fuel, causing sputtering, back firing(or what sounded like backfiring) loss of power, and the inability to rev past a certain point.

Check your:
-Fuel filter
-Plugs
-Wires
-Base timing
-Coil pack for arching
-Do another BLT
-Preturbo exhaust leak
-BOV return tube (I've had one crack before bringing in lots of unmetered air)

could be a bad knock sensor pulling the timing... typically happens at 3000 to 3500... feels like a major boost leak or fueling problem

edit: ooh I take that back... "doesn't want to rev past that" sounds like fueling... or the ECU cutting the ignition

Look at a major boost leak or fueling problem

mine was doing the same at one time....I checked all ic connections, but couldn't find the problem.(I didn't tighten every clamp, I just pulled on it a little bit to see if it was loose...) it did turn out to be an ic piping problem, so always check by tightening the clamps

then then next time my car was hitting fuel cut and such....it was the stock mbc not working. I couldn't figure this out for the loonnggesstt time, the ecu was saying fuel pressure reg. problems....
