4g63 starion swap?
Hello everyone, I am looking for any information or help i can get about doing a 4g63 swap into a starion. A friend of a friend has a starion/conquest that has a blown engine in it. I have looked up information on this swap before wanting a RWD 4g63 but, now that i potentially have the car to do the swap with i am looking for more info about it. Some of the things i do know about this swap is that there is a kit that was made with a GM tranny. The kit was more money then i was willing to spend and, i am sure there is a cheaper/easier way to do this swap since i want this car as a day to day driver. Besides why would i want to reck the integrity of a starquest with a GM tranny if i didn't have to. I have also seen guys use km-132 but, i dont know how much power they can handle. Now that i have told you what i do know about the swap any additional input anyone has to give will be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I am looking to do this swap as cheap as possible

The easier swap is the wide block 4g64. Getting harder to find them though. I'm almost positive it bolts to the stock trans and everything.
EDIT: Ooops guess the site proved me a little wrong. Still a wideblock 4g64 but a bellhousing swap is needed.

This is one of the more common swaps for the conquest/starion. Kash do you happen to know if you have the wide or narroblock? What vehicle did it come from?

There was one year that the D50 (dodge truck) had a 4g style motor and the RWD tranny would bolt right up to a modern transverse 4g63 (like in our cars) The tranny won't hold much over 300hp, but that's still plenty to have some fun with. And i'm sure it could be sent to jack's, TRE or some one and have the gears shot-peened and use stronger forks and rods inside of it to hopefully get it in the 450 +/- 50HP range
Make a log post when you start, or at least a webpage to link us all too

I am either going to buy a wideblock and a dohc 4g63 and transfer everything on the dohc to the wideblock so it will bolt up with the starion stock tranny or i am going to buy a D50 trans case and have some one move the internals from the starion tranny into the d50 tranny. I don't know enough about tranny's to do the internals switch myself thats why i say have someone else do it for me. What i want to know is which way is the better way to go about it.
also what vehicles had the wideblock in them i have been having a hard time finding this info

You will be droping a lot of money into that swap. Go for a smallbock or rebuild the 4G54. Trust me, the 4G54 can run its balls off when done right and you will be spending a lot less. I had a 88 Quest when I had my 97 GS about 2 years ago. Bought it for 400$ because it needed a new bottom end. Ended up selling it though to a 60yr old guy who dropped a smallblock in it. I will probably be picking up another one once the GSX is done. I just can't resist the RWD, I4 Turbo w/ LSD . For the 4g64 swap, I would get a hold of this guy. FS: '88 Starion 488whp 4G64 - StarQuestClub.com. Hes selling his right now that has 488whp.
For viewing pleasure:

just so you know a 2.4 wideblock bolts directly to the starion
transmission. just use 2 starion left side motor mounts and the
engine will bolt directly to the stock starion chassis mounts.
just so we are clear. the mount i am talking about is the steel mount piece
that bolts to the block. not the rubber piece that mounts to the chassis.

I wouldn't be so quick to knock GM's transmissions. They make some quality stuff (unlike most of their cars) when it comes to transmissions, ESPECIALLY automatics.

The smallblock swap is more difficult than you think. Ford swaps are supposed to be easier but a SBC is a major pain to make fit. If the OP decides to go that route PM me because I still have a hacked oilpan that will fit. As well as engine mounts laying around somewhere. Even though it may have been more fab work, I think the 1jz swap was easier than the smallblock swap simply because there was room on the side of the engine to work with.
