Mississauga,
I just finished my 16g install and I need help on a few things to make sure I haven’t missed anything and that everything is normal. before I start Ill just give a list of what I’ve done so far
255 walbro + rewired fuel pump
560 evo injectors
intercooler with piping
16g turbo
evo III manifold (ported)
ported o2 housing
mbc
A/F and boost gauge
greddy bov
injen intake

I have and AFPR which I will install hopefully tomorrow and I have an safc with datalogger equip which I will begin tuning once I’m confident everything is installed correctly which is where I need this forums help... I’m going to help you guys help me by giving as much info as I can so please bear with.

Anyways I started my car today and I noticed that my manifold was smoking a bit, the smoke was white in color (I’m worried something is burning or there may be friction somewhere although I’m very sure my turbo is receiving oil because when I opened my oil return line a lot of oil pored out). I got paranoid so I stopped the car and I heard a very soft taping noise (you really had to listen for it) it sounded like a leaking faucet that was far away (I understand engines make all sorts of weird noises I’m sure this is one of them I just want confirmation). The tapping was a rapid taping in the beginning then is slowed down over time. I checked my A/F gauge and the dial was between stoich and rich and my idle was about 1k constant (I did not let the car warm up so I’m sure it would have went lower the car also hasn’t been driven in 4 months although it was started a couple of times but no longer than 2mins). I have no check engine light and I check for leaks and there were none. Is all of this normal? I’m worried about the smoking manifold, if I’m running too rich and taping noise the most. What should I look for to be sure something is not right? If I am running too rich will the afpr solve this? Am I missing anything?

Have you checked your downpipe to see if any oil got on it while you were installing the turbo. That happened to me during my install and it smoked a lot for about 15 minutes.

did you prime the turbo before you actually started the car. that narrow band a/f gauge is crap except a gauge pod filler and light show. did you put back your manifold heatshield yet, dont put it on yet. so you can check for leaks. that smoke might be from anti-seize that i hope you shouldve used on everything, or pb blaster, or gasket residue burning off.

sorry i just remembered that the o2 housing to downpipe is not tightly installed and there is no gasket this is because I have a bigger downpipe and I need to go to a garage to get it installed. I tired doing it myself but its scary going under a car that is supported by 2 jack stands. I think there may be a leak there not to sure maybe the smoke is rising from there or you guyz could be right and its just oil and other residue burning off.

No the heat shield is not installed yet. Im still worried about the tapping I did some reaseach and from what Ive read people are saying it could be the lifters but this noise is incredibly soft and I dont think it is coming from above the valve cover. Im assuming if it was the lifters I would be able to notice it.

Truthfully I think im just paranoid. My car sounds fine when Im inside from what I remember Im just not use to hearing my engine with the hood up and me in front of the car. I think I will install the afpr and learn how to tune before I start posting my issues. I just really dont want to screw up my car.

thanks for all the help
