opps, broke the timing belt, how screwed am i?

Ok well going to work today I stopped at a stop sign and as soon as i hit the gas to go and shifted at about 4500rpm and my belt snapped. had to have the car towed home before i decide what to do with it. So what usually breaks when the timing belt goes? should i start selling off parts or try and fix it?

You can Almost garuntee bent valves and if your lucky you didnt tear up your cams. Pull it off and see first. But it shouldnt cost that much, my buddy had his Crank pully bolt come off not once but twice ahhaha and jacked all valves first time and Exhaust valves the second time.

Second go around he had to buy a re-man head and re-used his springs,retainers,cams and had a mild port n' polish job for $300.

Try these ppl if you cant find anything local and decent price, they did him very well on port n polish and sell of head like i said $300 for all that above.

And dont worry about the piston slap it will be fine.

Bent valves. You're looking a quite a bit of damage and money to fix. If you're handy you can pull the head off and take it to a machine shop and have them plane the head and do a valve job with new valves.

That happened to me so i went to the local junk yard and made a bargain; $50 for a whole head with the cams and all. Got it machined and had eveything switched over to the new head. If you do this, replace the valve seals and cam seals. saves you money down the road The whole thing took about a week and $350. Good luck man.

Alright thanks guys, im taking it tomorrow to a local shop a family member owns so he ca look at it and estimate how much it'll be to fix, at least i can get some new internals now

Hey, I had this happen to me almost a year ago to the day. I got lucky as ever and nothing was damaged. Hope you have the same luck but chances are low. Anyway, just get it checked out and see how much it wil cost. It's up to you what to do from there.
