I'm having troubles with my boost, there are no mods done turbo-wise and for some reason im getting levels of up to 20psi on a stock 6bolt turbo, i think its a 14b? I was told to do a boost leak test. Someone suggested using seafoam because of the smoke it causes, but isn't there a more reliable way? Also once i've found my leak, what steps do i take to fix it?

Do you have a MBC or the stockone installed? Yes, the 14b is the stock turbo on the 6 bolt. I'm a fan of using seafoam, but it's not a fix-all, especially if your car is smoking already. What color is the smoke coming out? And yes, DEFINITELY do a boost leak test. Once you locate the leak, or leaks in many people's cases, it depends on where/what it is on how to fix it. i.e. just simply retightening clamps, new couplers, using silicon, o-rings, new bov...etc...

No MBC and since I just purchased the car about two weeks ago I'm not sure as to whether the stock one is installed either. Where would it be located so I can check and give you some more info to work with? The smoke is a very light gray (almost non visible) and seems to be in order since I replaced my cat with a test pipe.

That's the problem, I dont know how to check that. That's kind of what im wondering. If I need to do a boost leak test. Or how to check what the psi is set to. I have a boost gauge and thats how i know its going way over 20psi. I only want to run 12psi. The turbo is internally wastegated. I know on an external you just have to adjust the spring, but how do i change this one?

Like i said check the vacum line that goes to your waste gate and the one that goes to your j-pipe ( the pipe that connects from the turbo to the intercooler). I had the same problem last week and i noticed that the vacum line that goes to the waste gate was tore up.
