Vancouver,
Well I took out my T -case the other day to get seals put in. So I bring the case to a transmission shop to get them to toss in the seals. The guy tells me that the shaft or yoke shaft had too much play and he said i might have to replace some internals. So I told him go ahead and rip it apart let me know how much. They want 600 bucks to rebuild the thing. Apparently the case itself needs replacement and a bearing or 2. So I'm thinking this is too much. I looked on ebay for a used one, its about $200 shipped which isnt too bad. I called around local wreckers only a couple of places have it, one guy wants 1000 for it and one guy 470, again way too much. Im a mechanic with a descent press at work, so Im considering rebuilding the thing myself just dont know about parts and procedure. What would you guys do? are there parts available? is it easy? I dont wanna risk an accident to save a few hundred. Also they gave me back my t case with it apart so now ive been drivin my car a small distance without the tcase. I dont know exactly why but feels like my clutch is slipping, im sure it has something to do with the LSD though.

Do it yourself. I bought a "parts" t-case for $35 from my junkyard and it turned out to be in pretty good shape. They said it was a parts only t-case because the one part of the driveshaft was stuck on it. I just knocked if off with a hammer. I took it all apart and everything seems fine in it. The bearings can be easily replaced as they have part numbers on them and you could probably call McMasterCarr or something and have them match up the parts.
