ok here we go i just got my car back on saturday got a motor swap its a 6/4 and it over heats really really bad to the point of it going past the red. now i was driving it thinking my temp gauge was bad thats what 2 people told me that was wrong but it does work. i have a fan hard wired so when the car goes on fan does also. i dont have a resuvor tank i just have this aluminum bottle that the smaller rad hose goes to my thermostat was just replaced so it cant be that i just bought a new water pump but hopping i dont have to use it but maybe ill have to install it today. and replys on why my car is doing this greatly appreciated

You should use periods at the end of your sentences. We don't know where one ends and the other begins.

Now what could have been wrong is a number of things. Bad thermostat, leaking hose somewhere, headgasket was blown, air in the system etc. How did the car run while it was overheating. Smell anything, hesistations, bucking, did it die at idle or during whine downs? Are you saying you kept driving while the temp gauge was pegged? If you drove the car with the temp gauge pegged you could be looking at having the head mating surface milled (or atleast checked) and possibly have the block checked out also, depending on how long you drove it. If driven for a long time you could be looking at welded spark plugs, hardened to the point of crumbling spark plug boots, goeey spark plug wires, warped intake manifold, jacked up pistons/rings, random failed bearings and so on.

But before ripping the motor apart do a compression test first. This will let you know if the headgasket it messed up (or head is warped). Also you can check your oil for coolant and coolant for oil. Does the car run still? If so you can start it and look around the motor to see if you see any coolant leaks or ruptured hoses. but don't let it run too long just long enough for it to build up pressure in the hoses. This is all i can currently think of right now, plus I'm at work so i need to do some I'll post more things to check later when i get home if someone hasn't already. Also you should get a haynes or chiltons manual if you haven't got one. They will give you some good pointers on what to check also.

yea i was driving it while it was pegged. motor has a built bottom end. i was driving it down to my friends house and halfway i smelt coolant and i pulled off into a rest stop and coolant was eveywherein the engine bay. it does stall at whine downs i have to keep it at higher rpms for it not to stall on me. spark plugs look ok. and also my oil line from my turbo leaks pretty bad. im looking at the water pump now well with it still on the motor and im turning the pully wheel and it makes a loud clicking noise. i bought a new one and in the prosses of putting it on now. then ill check the comppression. i should have done that before. i got a tester after i was pulling stuff off.

well my old water pump was shot the inner wheel was not even moving with the pully. that should be it

ok well i got the new water pump on and a new 180* thermostat and its still over heating. im thinking its the radiator but im felling the hose and there is pressure. any idea of what else this can be? hopefully not my head gasket. could it be because of my turbo? its leaking oil.

Look in the radiator to see if you see the coolant flowing when the temp gets over 180. If there is a little flows like slow. The its partially clogged. Another thing is if the Heater core is clogged then it would do the same thing.

where is the heater core? but i have pressure in the radiator hose wouldn't it be flowing if its like that?

like fatherbubble said, take off the coolant fill cap and make sure it's flowing. Just because it pressurizes doesn't mean it is flowing correctly. Check and make sure your heat works when it gets to operating temperature also. Are your fans turning on at all? Although at driving speeds it wouldn't matter if they cut on or not. Do you see any leaks or drips under the car?

I'm still leaning towards the idea that your gasket is toast. expecially because of your 3rd post...

yes i have one fan that always stays on because its hard wired to my safc they both turn on and turn off together. im going to get a new radiator in friday and if that dont work back in the shop it goes for another week :beatentodeath:. i do see some leaking under the car but i noticed my tc leacing and my turbo and maybe some coolant. ill find the problem aventually

oh that sucks badly. ill have it looked at by dogbox racing and see what they think. they are the ones that put my whole car together

i was going to get a punishment racing one with 2 slim fans for 229 or 249 shipped

alright here is some good news i took out the thermostat and flushed out the radiator and at idle it dont overheat. but i took it around my block twice and it starts to get hotter and sits around the line i just say 3/4 line then starts into the red slowly. but here is the crazy thing when the car is dead nuts cold when i start it the gauge sits in the middle of the first and second line , nowhere near the middle yet. so do you think my gauge is messed up? does anyone elses do this or is my car just special?
