Odd Left turn signal, Brake, and cruise control problem.

Ok I did a search and found alot of simal posts but nothing quite the same. My problem is that when ever I use my left turn signal or brake the dash lights come on. To make thing wierder if my head lights are on the left turn signal acts as if there is a blown bulb and blinks fast but only if the head lights are on. Also if the head lights are on the cruse control won't work, it turns on and the amber light in the switch lights up but it will never activate. But again the cruise control works fine if the head lights are off. I thought it might be the multi switch so I finally got one and replaced it today but the problems are still there. Any thoughts?

Which dash lights come on? Did this just start happening? Sounds like you may have a bad ground on one of the items and/or a blown turn signal/flasher unit (can you swap with someone's?).

the dash lights around my gauges, as if the head lights were turned on. Is that unit the one behind the radio? If they aren't that expensive I'll just buy one.

Yes it's mounted vertically on the center stay member on the right behind the radio. It's quite pricey however (it's a lot more than just a relay on a 2g). I recommend checking the grounds on all the exterior lights first. You should also try unplugging the headlights to see the effect when then turning them on. Also what happens when you try the hazards and do these other tests you've done? Also try unplugging the flasher unit to see if everything else works properly. Lastly if possible, swap flashers with another 2g as they are an expensive item to buy and find out it's not the problem (or get a used one at a junkyard).

Yes, bad grounds can cause VERY weird things to occur... For example, windshield wipers going on randomly. Check related grounds. Do you have a manual that tells you where they all are? If not, I have one and can probably hit you up w/ that section of it.

When I tell you that I`ve been down this road before . . . I have - you have a dual filiment bulb (parking light & brake/turn) somewhere on the left side where the 2 filaments in the bulb have touched together, & are back feeding each circuit (headlights on=backfeeding brake circuit cancelling cruise control) or left turn signal on= flashing dash illumination lights flashing along with it) Check your left side bulbs dude . . .

awesome I'll try that first, I know the guy I bought it off of was telling me he had just replaced the rear turn signals I bet it's one of those.

Excellent analysis!! I'd give you rep points for this (or mark it helpful) but that function doesn't work for me anymore for some reason (but I'll ask another wiseman to). Great explanation also! I think you've got it. Even if you don't this is a very real possibility for this type of weird electrical problem so if others come here, take notice!

Hey man glad to help . . . I had a car come into our shop a year ago with almost identical symptoms - we pulled our hair out checking the multi-function switch, stoplight switch, & headlamp control & dimmer switches, etc, just to find a bulb issue 3 days later It was a #1157 bulb in the rear where the 2 filiments had made contact - go figure

you were right! There was a single element bulb jamed in the back, I got the right bulb and it worked fine. I hope you end up with a rep point for that!!
