Chicoutimi,
Does anyone have ever made a CAI with the stock SMIC in stock location without removing the headlight ? If so, then how? BTW I have a 1GA

You might be able to route the piping around the radiator so that your filter comes out where a FMIC would. I think the extra bends in the pipe would kind of kind of make it not worthwhile. Besides, your intercooler is doing that work for you as long as it isn't getting heatsoaked.

--> When are DSMers gonna understand that a CAI for our cars is as efficient as in a NA car. --> The intercooler cools air in a relatively constant fashion, so that air entering 20degrees colder will get out of the intercooler colder (The same way colder intake air will come out of the turbo cooler at a given pressure)

This stuff is just simple physics

That's why i'm asking for a way to make a CAI for 1GA with SMIC in stock location.

there's been some 2g guys that have done it.

search.

Bad answer.

The only easy way to do it on a 2G is to get a 45* coupler and shoot it down into the fenderwell via open hole where the stock SMIC used to be. If it were a 2g, the setup would not work without some crazy custom piping. Another alternative I've seen used is to simply just flip the intake upside down and have the filter stick into the wheel well that way, but again, you can't have a stock SMIC setup.

To be perfectly honest, a cold air intake is just a stinkin' pipe placed in the flow of air somewhere in your bumper. Use your imagination, keep it clean, and get it to where you want it :thumb:

Oh and yes, having a cold air intake DOES help. Any time you can decrease intake temperatures, it is going to help. By adding a cold air intake, I allowed for a more aggressive tune with no knock along with dropping IAT's 20*F.
