so basically i'm buying a stock 95' GST from my buddy and i'm not going to lie, i don't know too much about what these engines can handle with what turbos and the psi or anything but thats why i'm posting this thread.

after i pay him off i'd like to drop some stuff into the engine. it is 100% stock besides the BOV.
it will be used as a daily driven car.

i'm currently looking into a gt35r or something similar in size. could go a little smaller but it doesnt matter

any tips on what i should add in what order? (fmic, bigger turbo, intake, etc.)

thank you :)

Please read this. And search about upgrade paths.

Welcome to DSMtuners - DSMtuners

James :laser::talon:

Exactly!

You put a GT35R into the car without any of the supporting modifications then you'll destroy the motor the first time you put your foot down (not joking).

Congrats on buying a DSM but the first thing you need to do is read EVERYTHING on this site (Seriously).

Then you need to start with basic maintenance and repairs and THEN you can start modding.

Good luck and have fun,

Tom

Just do a lot of research so that you end up getting what you really want. When I first started everyone told me to get a 14b or 16g which is what a lot of people go with in the beginning. I ended up getting it and used it for like a week and sold it because I wasn't happy with it. So just do some hardcore research and it won't even be a question as to what you want to get.

but before i even start looking at upgrade paths is there anything else that should be done besides a tune up??

ya do all normal maintence on it so it runs and is reliable ish. then follow the upgrade path as a general idea what kind of power are you looking to make?
i made 303 and 335 on a 16g 2.0 and 16psi
and it is suprisingly a very fun car.
it nw has a 2.3 stroker and i cant wait to dyno it.
but set a power goal and do all supporting mods and you should be fine.
evo III 16g ftw

All of the belts, all of the fluids, spark plugs (copper NGK's only!), plug wires, and I forgot if 2g's need the timing set, but if so, do that too. After that's done, make a boost leak tester and use it, fix all your boost leaks. Is your BOV recirculated?

i'm not sure if the BOV is or not i could ask him..ring ring...... he said yeah it is but its missing a small piece to the piping, also said its cheap and i could get it from greddy's website :thumb:

50% of people say 16g evo turbo just like you said and the other 50% say to go bigger, i was thinking more around a 20g anyways (when i actually get that far in the stage), is that a bad idea?

P.S: i've been reading ALOT about 95-99 eclipses like i've been told to and it has been helpful :)

It sound like it's not recirculated.

The BOV should have 2 pipes about an inch in diameter. The bottom end is connected to the pipe that going to the throttle body. The other pipe should be connected to the intake pipe pre-turbo. If this pipe is missing then you are venting you BOV which is a big no no :nono:. If so, buy a rubber pipe and connect the BOV to your intake ASAP. The car will run much better too.

20g's are jank would strongly recomend a 16g they make nice power and are incredibly streetable. if you want bigger you can upgrade later. for now grab a fmic injecters pump i run a winebro 255 w/fpr . and some other suppoting mods.
if you have the money FP's evo III 16g is a real nice one.

I think my eyes just exploded. WHAT!? 20G's are the grandaddy of older MHI's. Great street power with the ability to put down north of 400 and go 11's. They have just fallen out of favor due to the slew of new 50 trims and similar turbos that can flow a little better at a cheaper price. That does NOT mean the 20g is still not a great turbo.

if you have the money FP's evo III 16g is a real nice one.

Unless FP magically machined their own turbine housing to match a td05 wheel, they sell the same ol MHI evo 16G as everyone else.

to each there own but IN MY OPINION i had a 20g and got rid of it to keep my 16g didnt see huge power gains just bigger lag gains.
so that is why i steered him towards a 16g.
and sorry i was refering to the sleeper 16g
Forced Performance Turbochargers: DSM FP Sleeper 16G Turbocharger
and while its is alot of money and for another 500 you have yourself a 35r.
either a sleeper 16g or a reg old evo III 16g i think you will be very happy with a quik torquey street car

bigger turbochargers seem to have more lags dont they?

That's the standard rule of thumb. Which is why they are less "streetable".

But you're not there yet. You have plenty of time to pick a turbo.

Have you checked the BOV yet? Is it recirculated? Can you snap some pics and post them?

i cant take any pics, i don't have the car in my possession yet. he's rebuilding the engine because it is in non starting condition. it also has a brand new head.

he bought a 1995 tsi so he could have the awd set up. he's doing an engine swap. therefore i'm going to have a 1995 gst body with a 1995 tsi engine

here ya go bud!

Engines are the same. There is no difference between a 95 eclipse engine and a 95 talon engine just like there is no difference between a 94 eclipse, talon or laser engine. Unless one is turbo and the others are not :D
