Montreal,
Hey, my car had a big crack in the windshield so I bought a new one and will install it myself, but I need to ask people who have experience with it. Will 1 can of the black sealant be enough? Also how much of the old sealant must I remove and right when I apply the new one, do I got to put the windshield right away? Thank's

I can't speak from personal experience, but I saw two guys come and replace one on my subaru (it's a 2007, subaru FTL). They did everything within 15 minutes and told me I couldn't drive it for about 3 hours. From what I saw, they used what looked like big butter knifes to take off the old windshield, cleaned up the old crud with a scraper, reapplied a fat 1" flat black bead around the base and smooshed the windshield on using two plumbers plungers to hold the windshield. Then they taped all of the areas down with masking tape right after.

I'd never think of doing a modern, glued-in windshield myself. Check the yellow pages for mobile windshield repair, ask them how much to come do the job with your glass. It's probably a bargain.
The job isn't so much hard as it is knack and experience intensive.

And small windshield leaks suck! It shouldn't cost much for them to throw it in, especially if you have the old one out and cleaned up, ready to go for a mobile guy. And his work will be guaranteed.

Just had this conversation with a friend of mine.

Used windshield $100, black rubber seal $20

Guy to come out and do it for you priceless.:D

You will need to remove both A-pillars, head liner, trim piece on both the inside and outside of the windshield(the pieces at the top, buy a new outside trim piece from your local mitsu. dealer), windshield wipers and the shroud underneath them. You will need 2 tubes of 3M adhesive from Adance Auto Parts. Wire to cut the seal on the old windshield. This can be a real pain at imes. Do not loose or break the two support tabs at the bottom of the widnshield. Take your time and get as much of the old adhesive off the cars frame as you can. Apply a generous bead of new adhesive install windshield and your done. Don't forget you may need a kit to re-attach your rear view mirror. Good luck.

I would recommend having a professional install this windshield. Its very easy to crack or chip a new windshield. Plus it's a safety factor. Pay the $50 bucks and have it done the right way the first time. Installing windshields is harder than it looks.

A few tips for you. You must use the windshield plungers. Its best to do with some one helping, but a pro can do it alone. Practice dry because you will only get one shot. It has to go on right the first time or you are buggered.
