hey
I have a 91 talon awd, this is the problem about a month ago i was driving down this mountain in pa, towards donegal pa where i work,,, and all of a sudden i was going sideways,,, something locked up? So i took it home after work and started to diagnose what happened and what the problem could be. Checked and changed the rear diff, transfer case. No change, from ( driving down the road all tires skipping, acting like welded diff. and vibrating vigerously at 20 mph, and up.) long story shorter, i finally came to conclusion it was transmission and transfer case. I took them to shep racing ( who is the man !!! ) and just got back two days ago. Installed rebuilt stage 1 trans, with rebuilt transfer case. they found a few things wrong in that, both shafts from tranny to t case and receiving shaft in tcase from tranny both replaced. and another part that was starting to weld itself together. drove car downt the road, PROBLEM is stilll there???? checked the gear ratio it is right 3.5.45, also put new clutch disc in check throw out bearing it's fine,, few month old oem. 2600lb pressure plate ( flywheel and pressure plate i gently used emry cloth and then wiped with brake cleaner just to clean,,, Any idea's???

The problem is in the rear axel housing. It sounds like something has broken inside. You might want to open it up and look at it or just change it.

Ya sound like your rear diff..now would be a good time to upgrade to a 4 bolt if you dont have one already

it could be but i took the cover off the back like i said when i counted the gear teeth's to find out if it's the right rear diff ratio, it is cause it's 3.5.45 and no teath where broken that you could see,,,, and when i was trouble shooting before, i had taken the drive shaft from t case to rear diff off ( drove like a fwd) and the problem wasn't there>????? what is it? the carrier bearings are still intact no clear obvious damage???

the problem was tires,,,,,i knew they had to be same height,,,but was not aware that they had to be exact same size ( honest mistake ) close call,,,, i had 215 45 17 and 225 45 17 ooops. that won't happen again.

thanx
