Okay well since my stroker piston situation and much frustration I had decided to have Arias build me a set of 86mm custom stroker pistons for my 2G build but I do think I'm going to scratch that idea as having custom pistons made at 86mm would cost too much. They supply 85.5mm and my block is already .040 over :(.

So right now I'm looking at buying either JE 8.5:1, Wiseco 8.5:1, or Mahle 9.5:1

The price isnt a problem just performance, strength, and how much boost each piston will handle without worrying a lot about knock or a piston breaking.

Any input from you stroker builders/users?

Anyone who hasn't built or doesn't use a stroker need not apply.

just to throw it out there, from what i have read, many people that put JE's in their motor have experienced piston slap. myself personally would go with weisco.

I've read a few things about piston slap and JE also. I'm also trying to find something more like 8.6 - 9.0 compression ratio without having to shave some off my head or block.

All three names are renowned... I would just looke at enhanceing the performance alittle. Look at FFWD's slugs of braun coatings. Ceramic top coat and a flouropolymer coated side skirts. That should make those pistons even more bad ass! :sneaky:

And for the piston slap problem, sounds like machining error, bored out to much... taking wrong piston measurements... IDK just a guess.

Post 8 of http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/111079-arias-pistons-weisco-pistons.html From Wiseco's piston designer has some good information.

I went with 8.8:1 Wisecos for my stroker project. I was after a street car with more off boost torque and quieter operation, not maximum HP.

I have documented my research into the Stroke Or Not decision. For more than you really want to know about the technical aspects of 4G6X piston dynamics please see http://www.kidzuku.com/StrokeOrNot.pdf.

I would gladly use 8.8:1 if I knew they would be good to use with a GT40R without having to worry about too much knock. I am sure my MSD DIS-2 will be helpful in that department though but I don't want too high of a compression ratio on a heavily boosted engine.

The stroker is a little more tolerant of higher compression ratios and lower octane than the 2.0L engine. From page 39 of the StrokeOrNot document:

"The longer stroke and lower rod ratio of the 2.3L stroker has higher velocity ATDC and reaches the point where pressure can be converted to torque 2.25 degrees sooner than the2.0L engine. Theoretically the stroker should tolerate more ignition timing advance (or lower octane) better than the stock 4G63."

As always your mileage may vary and tune carefully.

tuning will be my only downfall as I'm not a tuner, never have tuned, and dunno anyone who has before. I have a MegaSquirt ECM so tuning it probably wont be too bad as long as I have a tuned rom/image I can go from.
