Hi!

I have searched the forums about this subject, but cannot find a good answer..

My car is a '98 Gs-t with a TD05H Small 16g turbo. I want to add some more top-end power, but I don't want my idle to change.

Using dsmlink I can change idle rpm after my need. It can idle at 800-1000rpm, but dont want it to sound tuned at idle.

Due to the amount of different cams and manufacturers, I will need some help to make my choise.

I have been thinking of BC 272's, but I do not know if they are correct for me. Planning to use the stock cam gears.

Hope anyone can help me on this subject. :)

The best set of tests I have found for choosing cams was by AMS.
Automotosports

After reading this I selected 264/264 cans for my street car.

Your mileage may vary.

I`m running B/C 264/272 combo with 8.8:1 compression, & it idles fine at 800 rpm . . . a little lopey, just enough to sound healthy, but not enough to make the idle rough. Btw . . . when the a/c is on, the idle bumps up to about 875, & it`s just like stock - :talon:

I used the comp cams 101100's for a little while. These cams idled completely like stock and was a really noticeable improvement. I've switched these out for the bc 272's which do not idle like stock at all and I didn't really notice a difference in power when I switched them out. There may have been a little but not enough to really notice on the but dyno. Hope this helped.

Thanks for your answers and quick repies!

So far it seems like the comp cams 101100's sound like the better choice for me. If anyone have a different opinion, feel free to post! :)

What lift do theese cams come with? :)

Spec:
Camshaft Specifications:
- RPM Operation Range: 1800-6800
- Intake Advertised Duration: 251 Degrees
- Exhaust Advertised Duration: 250 Degrees
- Intake Duration @ .050": 204
- Exhaust Duration @ .050": 204
- Intake Valve Lift: .407
- Exhaust Valve Lift: .391

Are they good on high rpm's, because I plan on running approx. 8000rpm, if my turbo can support that kind of airflow efficiently.

Edit: Better on high rpm's than stock? :)

Yeah, get fp2s. I had those in my car for a year and people wouldn't believe me when i told them it had cams. Hell, i was a lil disapppointed at first cause i like the choppy idle. Don't get hks, those give you a lope (which i love).

Anyone want to post some idle clip's of their FP2's? Youtube is short on them..

My fp2X cams at 875rpms idle:

Also, My small 16g with ebay fmic, stock 1g intake manifold and the fp2x cams were a GREAT combination (22psi with a stock stroke). It was a smooth not peaky, but broad power band. I saw 36lb/min with pump gas before switching to the holset. Pulled to 7K without falling off too, even with the stock intake manifold.

Wow! Impressed! :thumb:

As good as it can get? :) Sounds very similar to mine at idle (2,75" exhaust through)

Anyone better? :p

My exhaust is full 3 inch from the turbo back with a 12" glasspack and 4 inch resonator tip. This clip is with the h1c holset installed. It has a larger turbine and the note is louder than with the 16g.

It's fairly common to find guys that have installed fp2s to claim stock idle qualities.

Do I want FP2's or FP2X's? :)

There's not that much different. I recommend a good single spring upgrade... I've had great success with manley springs. The ramp rate is a little aggressive. I don't think crower springs or stock springs are enough. Manley is the best single spring you can get except for beehive shape springs, IMHO.
So my Brian Crover springs and retainers will have to be changed? It was SBR's recommended set.

BC 264's are a good choice. Just wondering why you are dead set on keeping the stock cam gears though?

You definitely need a spring upgrade with the fp2x's. You could probably get away with the manley singles. I decided to just spend the money and get the SuperTech Duals with Ti Retainers to complement the black nitrate coated valves that I'm using.

@95lbs seat pressure.. enough? I currently have the Brian Crower springs and titanium retainers installed, I was hoping to not have to buy a different set now, because they have only about 1500kilometres on them.

Changing to adjustable cam-gears is a easy upgrade that can be done anytime. I am currently rebuilding my engine and new transmission, so for this time I will save the money on the new gears. And I don't need them before fine tuning? :)
