I know a 1g transmission wont fit into a 2g without modification. But i was wondering is this because it wont work on the 7bolt engine. I have a 97 gst but i believe it has a 6bolt. Is there a way to know for sure? And if so will a 2g transmission fit on a 6bolt 4g63

the 2g tranny will fit into any dsm on any motor. the 1g trans will fit onto any motor but only into 1g cars (without modification). the only thing that would need to be matched up to for the trans on the car would be the transfer case if awd.

Its FWD. But thanks for the quick response guys my tranny just went up so im urgently looking for one. Thanks for the help again i really appreciate it.

o ok well the trans is out right now took it out 2 days ago and the cars at a friends so ill have to run over there and check it out. The guy said it was a new engine and i have the receipts and everything it just doesnt say ont eh receipt whether its a 6 or 7.

But it has a 14b turbo in it as well so im assuming it was just a complete 6bolt swap. thanks.

well as i said the tranny is off but checking the oil pan is quite easy. Thanks for that link thats a great bit of information for people to have.
