Ok well yesterday i got a UICP and a new bov from craigslist. Well it didn't fit too well so it took us a few hours of messing with couplers and trying to get everything tight. So we finally get it and go out for a test drive. It felt like i had some major boost leaks then.
Well on the way back all of a sudden it just stooped boosting and started making a loud whining sound similar to a British police siren, only the sound stayed at one pitch. Well i got back on made sure everything was Good and it was. Went back out and he same thing happened, No boost, Loud noise. So i get back and take off the intake and look at the compressor wheel........ WTF!?? The blades are all broken and choppy, HOW?? Did i suck something through my turbo? i dont get how this could happen. So i am assuming that this is why i can't make boost. These are pics i just took.

I think it is safe to say you definitly sucked something into it. I am no expert but wouldn't it still make some boost? I mean if the impeller still spins it should create some boost.

Sorry to see that man.

Something was either drawn into the intake, or the turbo developed alot of up/down shaft play which allowed the wheel to contact the housing. The fins occasionally break when this happens, and the broken fins will then cavitate around and damage the other fins causing a chain-reaction failure.

New 14B compressor wheels are around $80-$100....you can probably find another 14B on eBay for around that price that way you can re-use that pretty pink compressor cover.

Well, I can tell you your probably not the first. It looks like you definitely sucked something through there. Yes its why your not making boost, and theres so many possibilities of what could have gone through there.

I just can't believe i could be so careless. I cant really be pissed because my own stupidity is to blame.

If you were short any parts during the "install", I think I know where they ended up ;) Disconnect your lower IC pipe & with any luck you IC will have stopped whatever caused your damage, then you'll know for sure.

Will do, If i find anything in there i will post some pics.

Yep! I did the same thing to my turbo when I over tightened the coupler to the intake. Pinched a piece of the coupler off and through the turbo it went!

Bought another turbo of line that needed rebuild for $75 and pieced my turbo back together and all is good!

Whatever you sucked in there will be in the intercooler.

Theres a guy on craigslist that has a 14b for like $50.

I'm using my friends account right now, but this is Kieth. I found an ad on craigs. For a $100 16g with little shaft play. Here is the ad:

Turbo TD05-16G

About how long woiuld something like this last with the amount of shaft play it has?

In/out play is the worst. By design, the shaft can't move in/out more than .005"-.007" or the wheels will hit the housings. Basically, if the in/out shaft play is noticeable, then it's too much.

If you get a good enough deal on it, I'll rebuild it for a very reasonable price. It'll look like this when it's done:

when you chipped the wheel you probably bent the turbine shaft and thats why it whines.
my friends 16g did that and created no boost just made a really loud whine. and it was a bent turbine shaft

You said those second set of pictures were from three days before? I noticed you had a couple fins that were slightly bent. When you took those pictures, did you check for play at all? I'm just wondering if your turbo was headed downhill or something went through it. I mean either way it sucks man. Sorry. But you could always upgrade at this point :D.

My turbo went south in the same way...bent fins, then broken fins . But it lasted over 6 months while it disintegrated. FP has a group buy on Evo316g's right now...might want to look at that if you have the funds.

This car is my DD so i need it up and running. So i went and got a 14b with a little shaft play for 150. I know its a little high but i need to be at work in the morning. LOL Also, Do i need to change my oil before i turn it back on? Any possibility of metal getting in the oil?

I've seen cases on T25's where the thrust plate completely exploded and went down the oil drain and into the oil pan....but those were EXTREME cases of turbo neglect.

If there's alot of noticeable shaft play when you remove the turbo, then it might be a good idea to change oil too. If the shaft feels tight though, then there's no real need to change oil.

Sorry to hear you paid $150 for a used 14B with play....I would've sold you one of my freshly rebuilt 14B's for not much more than that. I though you were looking to get your car back on the road for, like, $75 or something so I didn't even mention it.

Time is my issue, Right not everything is back on except that stupid banjo bolt on the block. I cant get it to thread into the block. Its not stripped its just a PITA.
