Okay, so 1g motor in a 95 tsi ... stock

I was doing some work on the motor, took off the CAS re-assembled the car after changing out some parts (gaskets and such) ... now i cant get it to start. It cranks but sounds like its having some misfiring issues.... sounds like the timing is off. Wont run

From what reading through some other threads i've done, it seems like i need to unbolt my CAS and turn the butterfly 180 degree's clockwise and essentially hope for the best. There's a pretty good chance that it got turned while the motor was halfway dismantled... I mean i've swapped the wires out a million times wired it all up according to my chiltons.... the only thing that would realistically cause any issue would sound like the CAS not being set correctly or maybe the ECU being fried.. but i dont think i've dont anything ecu frying ....

What do you guys think?

Don't the spark plug wires have to be swapped since it is a 1g cas? I think they go like this: Swap 1 and 4 with 2 and 3.

I'm assuming its a 1g cas... but the motor is also a 1g. Do the plugs still need to be switched?

Rotate the motor to TDC and then make sure the cas looks like this picture when you put it back in to set the base timing. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/e...as-linedup.jpg

Cool... welll, excuse the ignorance here, but how would one rotate to TDC... just put a wrecnch on the crank pully and spin?

Yes, if you have a 2g 6 bolt then you need to swap the wires

4123 > 3214

Make sure you are setting the CAS in the middle of the range and then adjusting the ignition timing properly afterwards with the ground and a timing light.

right on!!!!^^^^ this info would have helped me a week ago instead it was loads of trial and error! got it tho!

Set firing order to 3214: done

Adjust CAS accordingly: done

Realize that radiator cap wasn't secure after taking a mad test drive up and down the road: done

Tighten rad cap: done

Clean antifreeze off windshield: done

Thanks guys... all runs well. Tho out of sheer curriosity, why is the firing order diffent than whats in the chiltons? I read 4123 ... so i had it set as such... so why this?

And one more problem i'm still having....

Symptoms: Clutch looses pressure to the pedal making it difficult to shift --

After doing some searchign through the forums I rebuilt the master / slave clutch cyl... and its better than it was... but still problematic.... I still feel like I'm loosing pressure... and i have about 1/2" - 1" of play at the pedal before the clutch is engaged again. Granted i may need to re-bleed the line.... but still
