as the title stated, are rebuilt turbos a bargain?

i need to upgrade my t-25 gst and was looking at the link below, but not sure if it's a reasonable choice (vs. brand new non-rebuilt $550+).

REBUILT MHI EVO 3 TURBO

post your reviews here.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Well just make sure all the major wear and tear parts have been replaced and then go for it. I personally don't have a problem with the idea. The 16g in the ebay link looks like the person did a good job with the rebuild. I say go for it.

Thats like questioning the reliability of a rebuilt engine. Are they reliable? Depends who built it and who well they did.

You are taking a large gamble by buying a rebuilt based on the photos. I can spray paint the compressor housing and sand blast the center section turbine housing and it will look just ike that. Or it could be that he actually rebuilt and just trying to get rid of it.

Yes. Maybe. Or, not. But not always, and seldom never. Depending.
If it's by the kid up the street, probably not. If it's from a shop that's been doing turbo rebuilds -there's not that much to it, it's in the detail work- for a few decades, probably so. Unless the kid got lucky, and unless the shop effed one up.
