Pull in 3rd today (ran fine so far - just got valvetrain/head on). The car FELL on its face ~5.5k then could barely drive nearest parking lot . Got the car home - pulled the wires, checked the plugs, checked compression. Plugs were white tipped on wideband had read (18+):1 lean. Car runs no diff with 1&4 injectors off, but stalls with 2 or 3 turned off.

Checked spark in the parking lot - wires for 1 & 4 gave no spark. Car got home, then all had spark. Started up and idled fine. So I took it out again and stayed close to home. Same deal - car gave up and I limped in around the block. Again, 1 & 4 have no spark.

Coil pack? What do you guys think? I had problems with the thermostat wires shorting a bit I think; they were causing the ISC motor to flicker around. Related? Thanks much in advance for the help guys!!

Coil pack or power transistor (a.k.a. ignition module or igniter)

I think coils because the first sign of bad coils on street-bikes (the original waste-spark 4 bangers in the US ) Is that 1 of them will get hot and shut down leaving you with a bike that won't start or barely run. You let it sit a few (half hour or so) and they cool down and may take you another 500 miles or 2 miles. But it seems the higher RPM you run the faster they shut back down from heating up.

But i think transistor just because I've seen the Mitsubishi J722T igniter do the same thing many times before where only one side would shut down intermittently.

Do you have a buddy with a DSM or a spare part that you could try and use the process of elimination?
